EVE noob edition on 3rd December

I proton my suit and space hat.

We told you yesterday that the noob edition of EVE Online was coming to Europe. Today, Namco Bandai has given the Commissioned Officer Edition a firm date: 3rd December.

You can buy it from GAME, Play, or Amazon.

Play is cheapest at £9.99, although the date is mistakenly entered as March 2011. Amazon is next best at £14.99. GAME is most expensive at £24.99.

The Commissioned Officer Edition of EVE comes with a Cerebral Accelerator in-game item that significantly increases the speed of skill development. It lasts for 30 days.

Also packed in are 30 days of free game time. EVE usually carries a monthly subscription fee.

EVE has been around for donkeys years and has carved a successful niche in the MMO market for its strategical spaceship gameplay. It's old, but there are big changes afoot, including upcoming expansion Incursion, which lays the groundwork for Incarna next summer - the beginning of EVE's transition from "the space game" to "the ultimate sci-fi world".

That's what creative director Torfi Frans Olafsson told Eurogamer in October - that and a whole lot more.

"GAME is most expensive at £24.99"

Aww poor B&M stores crying about losing sales to Steam and other online distributions, then they go and put the price out as high as that. No wonder people give them a ceremonious arse showing in regards to PC purchases.

Not bad since £9.99 is less than the monthly sub and you get 30 days included anyway.

Also, the comment that Eve is "old" is a bit misleading.

It's been running for quite a few years, but they release a free update about every six months which historically have included major gameplay additions and graphic overhauls.

so noob version is just accelerated skill development...no one sees the flaws in this?

I'm afraid a noob edition won't persuade me to play the game.

It'd have to be a lot more noob friendly than that to get me to dip my toes in those cold, harsh waters.

EVE is like marmite you love it or hate it, its not a bad MMO its just not for everyone, but a noob edition may get a few more interested.

I dont play eve but i may try this for £10.

Pretty clever idea this tbh, with an established MMO new players are more likely to be put off because they won't be at the right level to take part in all the cool stuff they've been hearing and reading about. This gets more players into the game without damaging it for existing established players.
