Jade's had a makeover.

Ubisoft will release a high definition version of cult classic Beyond Good & Evil on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

It'll be the same game released in 2003 but with HD visuals, reports IGN.

The character models and textures will receive a makeover, and the sountrack is being re-mastered.

As you'd expect, Achievements and Trophies and online leaderboards are added.

What is Beyond Good & Evil? Shame on you. The Michel Ancel-created game was applauded by critics for its The Legend of Zelda-esque gameplay, vehicular transport and brilliant combat system.

Redeem yourself with our retrospective from last year.

A price or release window is yet to be announced.

A sequel is in the works. It was unveiled in 2008 at the publisher's spring UbiDays event. Little has been seen of the game since then, although Ancel popped-up last year to tell us this "direct sequel" will be more "immersive" and "complex" - the game he'd envisaged making first-time around but couldn't due to technical hindrances.

That's pretty great. I have the PC version but it doesn't have controller support iirc, or at least I couldn't get my 360 pad to work. Played it on the Gamecube yonks ago, looking forward to this.

Recently played through the original game on steam again about a month ago and its just as good as I remembered it fromthe first time round. An HD remake is very welcome and is a no-brainer as a purchase.

When BG&E came out the first time around I was a little too young to play it. I liked it, but I either got stuck on an area or something annoyed me. Something stupid.

Either way, I am super excited about this. Being able to play this game again and it feel fresh at 20-something will be pretty awesome.

Don't get me wrong, these HD remakes are a great idea but when the original game didn't sell well you have to wonder if the company isn't wasting their time (same goes for Oddworld). Time will tell I guess.

Absolutely fantastic news - this almost guarantees a next gen BG&E game is in production.
Definitely an attempt by UBI to up the fan-base in preparation for the next title.

Was great on last gen, pc version is available on steam for under a �5 but the controls did not translate well, with or without a controller.

Depending on the price, this could be a re-purchase for me. Have the PS2 version, but never finished it (quit it when the game forced me to collect a gazillion orbs before I could go further. And I HATE it when they do that to artificially lengthen their game). But it was nice all together, so a HD trip down memory lane could be nice (if the price is too)

Remastered soundtrack? It only had one of the best gaming soundtracks ever! This is sweet, sweet news.

They'd better not fiddle with the graphics too much, though. The game still looks ever so pretty today. Beautiful, stylised visuals never get old.

One of the best starts to a game ever--all that lovely slo-mo./

Not too sure about the stealth sections, though. I never finished it, so might be tempted, but also have it on PC , which is higher def, and silky smooth to boot!

I picked this up on PS2 a while back but the controls were horrible. Couldn't invert up/down so couldn't play it. Hopefully this will be fixed.

i'm not talking about final boss i mean as in the normal game. I picked it up and had to give up within 5 min's due not being able to invert them. Maybe its from playing flying games but my brain cant get on with non inverted controls.

But with the original available for download or for mere pennies in the preowned section, what's the point?

I absolutely love the first game but don't see why they need to do this. Especially 'remastering' the soundtrack which is a bit like sticking Halfords bodykit onto a beautiful Aston Martin.

You want to remaster a quirky French game into HD? Do Little Big Adventure instead, please.

Brilliant. Probably doesn't cost much, if the SoTC experiment Digital Foundry did is any guide. But everyone should have a second chance to play this.

Have to say, the choices so far for HD remakes (God of War, Sly, Ico/SOTC and now BG&E) are uncharacteristically spot on for the games industry, let alone Ubi. Long may it continue. G Police next, pleez.
