Section 8 sequel announced

TimeGate taking pride in Prejudice.

A sequel to multiplayer shooter Section 8 has been announced. This will be known as Section 8: Prejudice and be released next year.

There aren't any platforms mentioned nor gameplay details offered, but there is a reveal trailer stuffed with gameplay that should do the trick. That's over on GameTrailers.

Section 8 was released last September on PC and Xbox 360, and in March this year on PS3. The game's hook was dropping futuristic soldiers onto a map from orbital dropships - a controllable descent that meant an end to spawn points and a choice of landing destination. Jetpacks and a powerful sprint ability also meant rapid navigation to other areas on the map.

Despite sounding like and looking like a lot of other shooters out there, Section 8 stood firmly on its own two feet, and received a hefty 8/10 from Eurogamer.

This is what Section 8, the original, was all about.

While it had me interested pre-release I never got further than the demo with the original.

I know others had some fun with it though.

Will keep my eye on this.

Loved the beta but after buying the full release I think I played it for 2-3 weeks before I completely lost interest. Glad to see it did well enough for a sequel though, TimeGate are a very talented team.

Forgot to add, soaring down from space only to land mere feet behind some lame camper on a high rock who would then say hello to my knife never got tiresome. The game also required a decent amount of teamwork and would often serve up some very rewarding tug of wars. Not all that you'd win, although it could be hysterically close at times.

I played the beta and really enjoyed it...just not enough to buy the actual game. Dropping down from space never got boring.

I think everyone knows why they bought Section 8 in the first place. Simply to tide them over with something a little different until Modern Warfare 2 came along some what 8 weeks later? It filled a void and then fell into one of it's own so I heard.

Like most others, played the beta but never got further than that. Nice time waster. Remember spawning and managing to land on an enemy. Was chuffed. :)

I liked the first game but it really was an online-only experience, playing against bots just feels so much different from playing against humans.

Anyway, what's actually new gameplay-wise? I see a light vehicle and possibly an air-strike (though that might be scripted). A drop-ship gets shot down but I wonder if those things really are destroyable now or if that's just part of the campaign. The weapons look similar to the old ones, only the shotgun is now more old-fashioned (shame, I liked how the S8 shotgun managed to look different from the regular pump actions every other game had and I think an automatic loader would fit much better into a sci-fi game).

@Haloboy! precisely what happened to me. I bought it to fill a complete lack of multiplayer games to play, and then when MW2 was released I never went back.

Didn't like S8 much thoiugh, mind you.

Awesome news. Missed it at launch due to odst, me2 etc but it's been one of my favourite multiplayer games of the year once i finally picked it up. Really looking forward to it.

The first one had awesome multiplayer, but was let down by the fact nobody bought it so there was noone to play with/against.

Here's hoping the sequel does well.

I actually really enjoyed the original; I just hope this one receives a bit more polish.

User controlled dedicated servers bring it back timegate and make it succeed please so other will follow.
People seem to forget that they could have dedicated server on consoles you could make pn your own.

From the demo on 360 it was very ropey imo. The concept was good, but it's realisation lacked polish and the "x" factor.
When it came to PSN I didn't look twice after seeing it was £19.99, but I have seen it for £4.99 from Shopto.net recently so may give it another go.

Any sequel needs more polish imo.

iv played s8 since beta, but recently havent played much due to server population, its gotten to the point were everyone knows everyone else which is no bad thing but it would be nice to have more ppl.
hopefully they wont have any publisher problems, with s8 i think they had to take the pub to court, not sure if they won but i did notice that after they had to self publish on the ps3 and 360 while the pc version didnt get much updates or even a demo.

I wanted to love this when it was released, but there were a few bits that were just a bit too ropey for the group that I game with to pick it up.
