Far Cry 3 appears on retailer sites

Collector's Edition on offer too.

New listings for a third instalment in the Far Cry series have been popping up on the websites of a couple of Swedish retailers.

GAME.se has Far Cry 3 down for a 2010 release for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Meanwhile, Webhallen is offering a Collector's Edition for 999 KR (around 90 quid).

It's not the first time we've heard talk of Far Cry 3 - back in November, Ubisoft scriptwriter Kevin Shortt said the game was in development.

Here's hoping there's an official announcement soon.

Let's hope so, the first one would've been truly magnificent if it weren't for a few key blemishes.

as if the swedish have time to play games....have you seen their women? if i lived there i'd have gone blind by now
  • bad09 #3 2 years ago

I can only hope Ubiscum buck up their DRM ideas before this hits, I will be quite gutted to miss out this one I really do like 2. Still if I live without AC2 I sure as hell can live without this.
  • JayG #4 2 years ago

Buying the console version hardly sends a message to them about their DRM. Till they drop it I refuse to buy any of their games on any platform. I just hope they don't finally bring out a new Might and Magic game.
  • darkmorgado #5 2 years ago

Buy the console version secondhand then. No DRM, and Ubi don't get any money for it. You can pick it up secondhand for 360 for about 6 quid now at GAME.

I got it on PC and later for console after my gaming PC died. Awesome game, will be pleased to get the sequel. Wonder what they will do this time? Maybe take it back into the jungle like the first one?

Well I was gonna get 2nd hand copies of Splinter Cell and AC2 originally, but then what if they do actually decide PC customers aren't the shit on the soles of their shoes and patch out their garbage? I would much rather experience them on the PC TBH and quite happy to wait and continue the blanket ban on Ubi products in the house (Mrs didn't like being told no to her next CSI game!).

Besides, even though I now have my girlfriends 360 and PS3 sitting there, I just don't buy on the consoles. I like having my games on the PC so I get the telly but if a crap movie, Eastenders or come dine with me comes on our telly I still have access to my games on the monitor! :)

I dont know if I'll buy it. Far Cry 2 had its great moments reconing bases before attacking. But between those was tons and tons of boring travelling fraught with annoyances and detours. even just to get to a save point...

It should have been great. Other games make travelling a joy. Far cry just made it annoying by forcing you into bases. what if i decide I dont want to play anymore for that day? Oh wait first i need to spend 15 mins to save. Boring!!!

If they fix how we get to different places, and speed up loading. I'll be happy.
  • bad09 #8 2 years ago

    @N@

Yeah some would say I'm an idiot waiting for Ubiscum to fix up, or for Red Dead, or for Super Street Fighter 4, or getting giddy at the news Mortal Kombat might head to PC especially with Mrs bad09's 360 and PS3 sitting right next to my PC but PC is were I game so to support devs and publishers that's the platform that get my dosh now....oh sorry I meant to say I'm dirty pirate, gimme free games Hahahahaha! Yargh.... ;)

Who knows what Far Cry 3 will be like? The first and second were so different and from completely different developers.

I actually loved Far Cry 2 (and the original, but Crysis is that game's heritage). The sequel has a ton of potential, but I can't buy it if it has the current Ubi DRM which will be a real shame. Console version of any FPS isn't a realistic alternative unfortunately.
  • bodypopper #10 2 years ago

Fingers crossed it'll be set in swinging 60s London this time.
  • arcam #11 2 years ago

@N@ (Your name makes that hard to write :/ )

Just can't get with the controller I'm afraid. I know it's fine for many people (and I have tried because I would love to play more games downstairs on the big TV where m/kb isn't an option) but third person shooters with some kind of auto-aim like GTA or slow combat like Dead Space is the furthest I can get without becoming frustrated.
  • kuzanagi #12 2 years ago

Really enjoyed Far Cry 2, despite a few flaws. Really hope they build on the good points and include co-op this time around.
  • arcam #13 2 years ago

    include co-op this time around.

Agreed, co-op in Far Cry 2 would have been really interesting...

And they should make exposions a bit meatier, they were always slightly disappointing.

    @notmyrealname

Don't quote me but I'm pretty certain I read somewhere FC2 had its DRM patched out a while back. Shame they don't plan on the same with their current evil DRM scheme.

    Far Cry 2 .

One of those games that I always consider dusting off and spend an evening with.Chugging down a muddy river watching the sun glint through the canopy, the cicada sound and CB fuzz filling the crisp night air. Check watch, pull over. A figure? Check sights. Negative. Lone Zebra. Keep moving, watching.

    Oh wait, enemy outpost.
    Fuck.

    Fuck that.

  • tachometer #16 2 years ago

I reckon someone's gotten mixed up with Crysis, there's no way a big title like FC3 wouldn't get a years worth of hype
  • mkreku #17 2 years ago

Ubisoft are so frustrating. It feels like their games are getting better and more interesting, but their DRM is getting worse.
  • andromeda #18 2 years ago

Amazing that for some people now, the DRM issue is seemingly more important than the game.

    Get over it.

  • bad09 #19 2 years ago

    @andromeda

I don't think people should "get over it". You may like being stepped on but thankfully many consumers don't. This industry is getting REALLY anti-consumer these days a line in the sand must be drawn.

But I agree it's amazing (and truly tragic) that PC gamers have to research and discuss DRM more than the games but then that is now life on PC and there is no one to blame for that but the industry itself, yes the industry NOT pirates who don't really have to deal with the DRM these idiots put on us in the first place.

  • Sunyavadin #20 2 years ago

Will it have the most annoying bug of the second game fixed?

The way that your game could break completely at 30% completion, but the only way to know if it had or not was to get to 60%...
  • Sunyavadin #21 2 years ago

    Also...

"Oh and second hand does bring money. Because I know many people of which I buy the 2nd hand games from who buy on day 1, just to sell at day 3. If they weren't able to get refunds they'd just buy less games. So indirectly, 2nd hand sales definitely contribute to the income, it's just that the ubi guys are greedy and wanna go for that 5% profit whilst shafting all their legit consumers. "

    THIS.

There's a reason, especially with the achievement systems games have now, that the day after launch shops have a second hand rack for a game. Without that, many people would not bother. Many of the achievement whore generation buy a game, 100% it, and sell it the next day in order to make their total expenditure closer to about £15... If they waited for the price to drop over time to that point, that's a lot of sales at the initial pricing point that are missed out on.

@JayG: Ubisoft has already made a new Might and Magic game. It is called Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms or some such. They have handled it quite silly though since it has been available in France for almost 2 years as I understand it, available to the UK nowadays as well and recently the US has been given access. The rest of the world is allowed to hope for this game to become available, if it ever will. Oh, and it is a browser game - which makes the above even more silly.

If this does indeed turn out to be Far Cry 3 then I do hope it to be rather awesome.
  • DB2k #23 2 years ago

for me FC2 went away from the games roots and was just VERY VERY annoying to play, driving around everywhere. LEAVE IT
  • FogHeart #24 2 years ago

Was mightily impressed by the Dunia engine developed for FC2 and later used in Avatar. Let's hope, as far as making a game that is as impressive as its engine goes, it's third time lucky.

Might and Magic VI: Heroes was announced acouple of days a go. cant recall the publisher etc.
  • mkreku #26 2 years ago

Oh yeah, I remember them talking about the Dunia engine in one of their developer diary videos. They were talking about how you could accidentally set fire to the steppes and how the fire would spread with the wind. I bought the game and tried it out. At most I managed to burn down a tree, I think. The fire never spread for me. I really wanted to burn a few zebras too.
  • FogHeart #27 2 years ago

...and I think I remember other interviews where they said they put a limit on fire spread for gameplay reasons?

Edit: PS didn't neg you....but I wish I could stop myself muttering 'Sorry' out loud whenever I ran down an antelope :(

Well it certainly is close to release if its coming out in 2010. I would be a little surprised, due to the lack of any information. I read (probably here) that FC3 was going to be set in Africa again, so that would mean alot of the tech they already had could be re-used. But still 2 or 3 months, thats not long...
  • Iain815 #29 2 years ago

The whole constant enemy checkpoint thing ruined the game for me entirely.

Such a shame. Lets hope this one doesn't make the same mistakes.
  • Daikon #30 2 years ago

Yeah, the magic instantaneous enemy respawning in AC2 was quite amazing.
It was the reason I ended up traveling to missions by taking the bus mostly...

Next generation of consoles will have something similar.
I expect you to not moan then and suck it up as you tell us to do right now!

    Fucking hyperbole c**nts these days...
  • polaris70 #32 2 years ago

I think FC2 had the best engine I've seen on a console. The enemy checkpoints could become a pain, but I just ended up skirting them or going cross country. Every now and then when I couldn't be arsed doing a long mission, I'd just visit a checkpoint and create havok lol - some of the firefights were better than some other games proper missions. Very good game but not perfect. Hopefully FC3 will take on board some of the criticisms like Ubi did for AC2, and make a truely outstanding game.
  • beastmaster #33 2 years ago

Far Cry 3 to go artic.
  • Spekingur #34 2 years ago

The multiplayer in Far Cry 2 was awesome. The map editor was also really cool.
  • darkphoenix #35 2 years ago

Loved Far Cry 2, best FPS this generation so far.
Mature story, believable set and characters, incredible visuals, a game that actually needed careful planning before missions, and would demand extreme tactical play if you'd set it to higher difficulties.
Playing cat and mouse in the jungle has never been this fun.

The enemy respawn was spot-on, after all the game was set in the middle of a civil war...
Civil as in armed people fighting each other, get it? Endless canon fodder...
Unless, you were hoping that one man would kill everybody in the country.

I think FC2 is problably the most underrated and misunderstood game of this generation.

  • arcam #36 2 years ago

I think FC2 is problably the most underrated and misunderstood game of this generation.

I agree, and I think that the amount of criticism it got it might mean they make too many changes and lose what I loved about it. I hope not.
  • Haloboy #37 2 years ago

    @darkpheonix.

I was all set to convey my own thoughts on FC2 but you absolutely read my mind. FC2 was a privilege to play from start to finish and I still scratch my bonce now and again trying to understand how it could be so misunderstood by so many.

FC3 can't come soon enough for me personally.
  • Miths #38 2 years ago

I spent around 30 hours in Far Cry 2 (but never actually finished it). The check points did become a royal pain the ass, but the game world was just so beautiful and atmospheric that I could go sight seeing for hours.
  • Seehuusen #39 2 years ago

Here's hoping they get rid of sandbox in Far Cry....just make it a big linear game, it fits the game...or give it back to crytek so it will be an actual Far Cry game instead of just buying a brand and make stuff up...
  • Nephirion #40 2 years ago

  • Pumpatron #41 2 years ago

I really enjoyed far cry 2, the sense of freedom was what made it for me. I agree about the checkpoints, they did return as if nothing had happened a bit too quickly in my opinion, they need to re-populate, but not just by 'magic'.

My main issue with it was the gun-play, I found the automatic weapons unresponsive and awkward to use. I think this was partly down to how your view moved along the x and y axis, it just didn't feel right to me. And partly because they seemed to be very inconsistent, you'd need to empty 20 bullets into someone to kill them sometimes, cue many "How the fu*k is he not dead!!!???" moments.
  • polaris70 #42 2 years ago

Yeah that was my main complaint about the game. The sticks accelerated too much and you couldn't adjust the rate even though you could adjust the speed, the actual game was fine apart from the instant respawn checkpoints. I don't ever play games with aim-assist and I've been playing FPS's for a long time, but with this game I had to use the assist. Maybe it's just me, I dunno but I couldn't get used to the free-aiming but still enjoyed the game.
  • bratmandu #43 2 years ago

Fix the broken stealth of FC2, stop with magically respawning enemies at "completed" checkpoints, and make a checkpoint/save anywhere system. Then you shall have my euros Mr Ubi.
  • samadriel #44 2 years ago

Weren't there, like, -two- scenes of them actually fighting each other? So much for the so-called civil war, the only thing that -ever- got the soldiers' dander up outside those scenes was the player character. The game's half-arsed 'civil war' setup does nothing to justify me clearing a checkpoint, rounding a corner to hand something in at an errand destination, heading back, and finding the checkpoint fully repopulated in under three minutes.
  • peppergomez #45 2 years ago

Let's hope they remember to create a game world with some semblance of life this time. If only the gameworld in FC2 hadn't felt so barren and lifeless, populated only be spawning enemy patrols. Zzzzzzz.
