13 PSP Minis available today

Pricing and line-up inside.

Sony has announced that 13 PSP "Minis" are to be made available on the PlayStation Store today for PSP owners to download.

Minis cost between £2.49 and £3.99 for the initial run of games, with each weighing in at less than 100MB and compatible with any PSP, including the new PSPgo, which launched today worldwide.

Those 13 launch titles are:

  • Alien Havoc (Creat Studio) - Play as an alien gathering cows into your spaceship, as angry farmers try to prevent you doing so.
  • Bloons (Hands-On Mobile) - Pop balloons to solve puzzles.
  • Brainpipe (Hands-On Mobile) - "The ultimate objective is to transcend humanity" by navigating funkadelic tunnels in your head.
  • Breakquest (Beatshapers) - Some sort of musical shmup with 100 levels and music from Maniacs of Noise.
  • Fieldrunners (Subatomic Studios) - PSP port of one of the best tower defence games ever, originally seen on iPhone/iPod Touch.
  • Fortix (Nemesys Team Studio) - Sounds like tower defence where you control a knight, but it also sounds like he gets in there. Description's a bit unclear but you can collect catapults, which sounds good to us.
  • Funky Punch (Solus Games) - 3D fighter with 12 characters and five game modes.
  • Hero of Sparta (Gameloft) - Uninspiring-looking hackandslash where you play King Argos delivering unrivalled value/death to the people of the Underworld.
  • Kahoots (Honeyslug Limited) - Platform puzzle game with 50 levels where you drag blocks to create a safe path for your Kahoot.
  • Pinball Fantasies (Cowboy Rodeo) - PSP port of the 1992 Amiga pinball game.
  • Puzzle Scape Mini (Farmind) - Exploding block puzzler.
  • Tetris (EA) - Falling block puzzler. Some history.
  • Vempire (Impressionware) - Strategy puzzler that looks a bit like a Sesame Street take on Puzzle Quest.

Check out our in-depth look at PSP Minis to find out what the fuss is about and investigate the philosophy behind it.

"Pinball Fantasies (Cowboy Rodeo) - PSP port of the 1992 Amiga pinball game."

Wait, what? God I played that soo much - one of the reason I got an Amiga 600HD after I was a staunch Atari ST supporter (as well as poor) for many years. May I'll get this just to hear the music again, and see how this 2D game holds up against the excellent Pro Pinball series and Zen Pinball in PSN (which I love).

Also available on iPhone - bought it a few months back - music is exactly as I remember it :)

Breakquest is like crack. It's basically Breakout and just as horribly addictive.
  • Canyarion #5 2 years ago

Vempire.... how many people will instantly buy that, expecting a vampire game? :)
  • Goffee #6 2 years ago

Woo-hoo, charges up PSP, checks bank balance - bugger! Well maybe just the one.
  • TopKatt #7 2 years ago

So, if I buy one of these today, which is the one to get?
  • Toothball #8 2 years ago

I'm not really that keen on short attention span games like these so I expect I'll be giving them a miss.

I will concede however that I am a huge fan of Paper Plane on DSi, which is pretty much exactly the same thing as these.
  • TopKatt #9 2 years ago

They're ideal for me though as I've got a really short atten
  • monkeylite #10 2 years ago

Is SCEE taking the piss? Nothing is up yet on PSN UK store. This is supposed to be the biggest PSP PSN update day, and SCEA has already updated their store despite being a couple of hours behind us.

Prinny for $10 on the US store is a bargain.
  • Malek86 #11 2 years ago

Didn't they say they were going to be 1.50-2.50$? But all the games on right now cost more than 5$, and Tetris even costs 10$. What's up with that? It's the same as a normal downloadable PSN game.

And yeah, Prinny is too much of a bargain to pass off. I'll wait for 6PM to see how the EU update will be, and if there's nothing of interest, I'll just buy a US voucher.

    Crikey. Good effort.

Did I miss the post saying which full psp games would be available for the psp go launch?
  • mingster #15 2 years ago

Yeah they aren't exactly that cheap are they?
I thought the idea was they where trying to recreate apple app store cheapness.
  • Roarster #16 2 years ago

    "unrivalled value/death"

    Genius!
  • kangarootoo #17 2 years ago

    @mingster

You don't think £2.49 is cheap for a game? You wouldn't last ten minutes in Waitrose.
  • Roland_D11 #18 2 years ago

At least this line-up is way better than the line-up Nintendo had (and still has) on DSiWare.
  • Viktor #19 2 years ago

Pinball Fantasies! Day one purchase - and I already have it on iPhone :)
  • Toothball #20 2 years ago

    @GordonJ:

Technically you didn't miss the announcement, but only because there wasn't one. From what I can gather, there won't really be any additional games available beyond what's already there. Seems like a bit of an oversight to me, but that's Sony.

Closest we have is this forum thread detailing all available content: [link url=http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php? thread_id=100788
    ]http://ww w.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_po...[/link]

There are a bunch of full games available, but there's still many to make the transition to PSN.
  • GordonJ #21 2 years ago

Just seen the ps.uk blog (and that thread) has finally updated with the games, bit disappointing compared to the US list of games.
  • mkreku #22 2 years ago

    Pinball Fantasies!!
  • Fodder #23 2 years ago

Slightly surprising the store isn't updated in time for Go's release. Oddly, Motorstorm and GT are actually there, but not linked to anywhere, so you'll only find them through the search function. The Minis aren't there yet, though, as far as I can see.

Disappointing. SCEA's PSN update had about 100 PSP titles added this week, and we get about 20...

    What the hell SCEE???
  • Toothball #25 2 years ago

Ah so there is a list. Sadly features none of the games I'm currently in the middle of so I don't even have the option to pay for them again to switch over to my Go.
  • wizlon #26 2 years ago

So are any of these any good?
  • drumbaby #27 2 years ago

As good as any Iphone drivel is my guess.

You left Monster Hunter Freedom Unite off that list.

Best game on the store until the update. Which got me thinking, why the hell didn't they update the store last night FFS?

Do you think they forgot about the PSPgo launch? They're acting like rubbish parents, who forget to wash little Jonny's PE kit and so he's had to go out on sports day in his pants.
  • Malek86 #30 2 years ago

@monkeylite: man, that list sucks. Looks like it will be another US 20$ voucher for me.

Yep, going to buy from a SCE that cares. Prinny for $10 woo!!!
  • GamesConnoisseur #32 2 years ago

There are quite a few gems in iPhone game library, and to call them all drivel is an indication of someone not able to locate a reasonable great game! FieldRunner is one that PSP owners will reap the benefit from and with my strong recommendation to go for as one of the good tower defence type of game.

Space Invader Infinity Gene is absolute brilliant and a steal at a cheap price on iPhone... try it and you ll get a trip!

Would not be suprised if iPhone game devs are going to port more games to PSP and that would be great to add to the library and widen the choices for us PSP owners.

I would hope EG will do group reviews of all Mini games soon and thus aid us in our decision as to which to go for!

Pinball is another game I m getting as loved Amiga version but Hero of Sparta I thought wasnt good and wondered if Vempire is worth downloading as well, as loved the Puzzle Quest.
  • cherryuk #33 2 years ago

There is only one game that will champion them all - THEXDER NEO! And it's on US & JAP stores but not Euro stores yet.
  • Rev.StuartCampbell #34 2 years ago

Would not be suprised if iPhone game devs are going to port more games to PSP"

Especially if they can charge five times as much for them...
  • Aktion #35 2 years ago

hey! BreakQuest is not shmup! its an arkanoid on steroids actually. And I agree with trav, it is addictive, so you warned ;)
  • cherryuk #36 2 years ago

THEXDER NEO is on PSN this week, not as a PSP mini as once thought

PINBALL DREAMS is what you want!!! The Nightmare table on that is worth the price alone!

Not so much Pinball Fantasies, it's OK though

Pinball Dreams was the first one, wasn't it? I remember that Nightmare table very vividly. Me and a mate spent literally weeks competing for high scores on that. Brilliant stuff.
