Xbox 360 sales boom in the US

All other platforms see decline.

Sales of the Xbox 360 are up an impressive 34 per cent on a year-to-date basis in the US, with September being the console's strongest month of 2010, NPD Group has announced.

The NPD data - the first not to include precise unit-by-unit sales – shows that all other consoles are down compared to September 2009. However, PlayStation 3 and PSP are up on an average sales per week basis compared to August.

The release of Halo: Reach seems to be a key factor behind the Xbox 360's growth. It was the best selling game of the month, shifting 3.3 million copies, not including those bundled with consoles.

The full top ten reads:

  • 1. Halo: Reach
  • 2. Madden NFL 11
  • 3. Dead Rising 2
  • 4. NHL 11
  • 5. FIFA Soccer 11
  • 6. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
  • 7. Mafia II
  • 8. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
  • 9. Metroid: Other M
  • 10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
