UPDATE #2: Nintendo has broadcast a mini Nintendo Direct starring Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, who talked about the game's three new characters in more detail.

Each of the three new faces' movesets are revealed in detail, and there's a better look at some more of the game's stages. The 3DS incarnation will include a Gerudo Valley location from Zelda: Twilight Princess, while Smash Bros. on Wii includes new Animal Crossing, Wii Fit and Wario levels.

UPDATE: Nintendo has revealed a couple of new Super Smash Bros. details this evening, firstly that the game will run in 1080p.

Another new character was also shown - the female sports trainer from Wii Fit.

ORIGINAL STORY:Nintendo has shown off the first gameplay footage from its upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for Wii U and 3DS.

The twin titles will once again see a huge cast of Nintendo characters beating each other up, now with classic Capcom character Mega Man.

The unnamed Villager from Animal Crossing is another new face to the roster. He was shown in the trailer burying an opponent with a Pitfall Seed attack.

Mario, Link, Samus, Fox, Kirby, Pit from Kid Icarus, Pikachu, Donkey Kong and Bowser were also spotted.

There was also a quick glance at a cute new stage themed around DS Zelda title Spirit Tracks.

The 3DS version of the game - which will connect up somehow with its bigger brother - has a slightly cel-shaded look.
