Sea of Thieves review - a Rare treasure

roguepope

@MrTomFTW Personally, I've been telling my friends to Arrrvoid this one. It gets boring very quickly and unless you have a dedicated bunch who you'll be playing with constantly it's a very dull experience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance review - history is a double-edged sword

@pa_pinkelman Even though Black Labradors didn't exist as a breed until the 19th Century, it shows the pure evil racism inherent in the minds of so-called developers that they didn't include them.

I like it, typically I'll use the random function in RPGs. I find I remember the characters in different games more if they all don't look like a uncanny valley version of myself.

As has been pointed out in various other outlets EA only cares about it's shareholders. By buying this game you're letting them know where the current "line" is so they can push it next time. Don't let them think this is acceptable, don't buy games pushing this crap. Boycott these scummy companies.

Football Manager 2018 review

roguepope

@smelltheglove Yeah I guess. Say what you will about their journalism but I used to like Kotaku's "Buy this if..." / "Avoid this if..." approach as it allowed for a more detailed summary for lazy readers who don't have time or inclination to read a whole review.

roguepope

@mrcheesyelf Yeah, I read that bit and I fundamentally disagree with the reviewer on this. It's all personal opinion but I would recommend SI take a year off to come up with something of actual substance for the next release.

This is where the problem with this avoid/recommend/essential system kicks in. I would say this is an "essential" to anyone who's not played FM for a few years, but easily an "avoid" to anyone with FM17. There's just not enough improvements or new features to warrant the price. I refunded mine after 2 hours and just downloaded an external 17/18 database.

Adorable quick-fire action-RPG Cat Quest is heading to Switch next week

roguepope

Have played and completed this on android, it's ok...ish. It's a bit simplistic and I honestly think the move to console will do nothing to improve the experience. There's really no depth after a bit and it shows it's nature as a kids game.

Some will like it due to the Cat theme but ultimately this is an Avoid in my view

Football Manager 2018 dives into the fragile world of dressing room politics

roguepope

It's not new, this was reportedly in the background of the last version and they've whacked a UI on it, brought it to the front and called it a new feature. This is possibly the laziest release SI have brought to date.

They're probably just tired of the annual releases. Maybe they should take a two-year hiatus, sell a reduce priced roster update whilst they're away and come back with something really impressive.

This is almost as much of a rip off as the Vive's base price itself. Many banks offer 2-year loans at 3% and those come with some degree of protection. Why would you pay 10% unless you're not doing so well credit/money-wise in which case this isn't something you should be buying right now?

Mega Man 2.5D is a fan-made game eight years in the making

roguepope

@spamdangled As @Moz pointed out this is not the case, whilst it's true you don't need to leap to battle-stations the moment an infringement occurs. You do need to protect your trademarks to prevent them becoming watered down.
There's lots of resources pointing this out that I researched when defending my own.

roguepope

Well it's out now, no amount of lawyers are going to be able to recork the bottle. Mirrors are already everywhere.

But remember, under the stupid trademark laws (See the Bethesda "Scrolls" saga) Capcom need to defend their trademark or let it go. The studios usually know that it's a silly case but they have to bring it.

roguepope

I played the Last guardian over at a friends house for a few hours and sheesh was it a buggy (albeit pretty) experience. You just want to grab that doggy faced bastard and give it a good slap. I think the reviews for these two games were mixed up in the editing room.

Probably sales suffered because word of mouth. I've not spoken to a single human being (i.e. not a games journalist :-P) who's played this and had a good time.

More people would have probably gotten this if Titanfall's servers had not been abandoned so quickly. It ruined the perception of the franchise so people think they're not dropping £40 on a game that's only really playable for a couple of months.

7 Hours into this and am having a pretty good time. The story is certainly up there, but yeah the combat is a little weak (even on hard difficulty) if you balance your team right, you just steamroll over everything. Agree with the recommend, not an essential until they re-balance the combat.
