The BBC's Grand Theft Auto drama was weird and meaningless

Orange

Still can't believe how bad it was, so much material to use and what they ended up producing was a load of inaccurate guff with nothing to say.

Yeah I bought it on release, it's nice to look at and could have been special, but just has nothing beyond a simple and obvious formulaic grind.

At the gates of Temple Studios: Where gaming and theatre collide

Great article, I've been to Temple Studios and it was great. A bit claustrophobic at the start with the tight mask and in an elevator, but being able to wander around a great set and stumble on things was really fun.

EA hopes to keep political ideology out of SimCity

Orange

Sounds disturbingly like they are bowing to the nutters who do not believe in human-based climate change. Would be pretty awful to see Sim City go the same way as Spore, appealing to right-wing americans.

Well surely the future is eventually PCs and consoles effectively becoming one, probably through cloud computing where your own hardware no longer matters, you just pay for the connection and the content.

Guild Wars 2 Guardian replaces Monk

Orange

What was great about GW1 was the flexibility of builds, so using your secondary class to change what you wanted to play. So even monks in the first game could be viable as smiters.

This new class sounds a bit dull, although moving away from dedicated healing sounds good. Hybrids are more interesting and have a higher skill cap.

Laid-off EA dev: Old Republic "is a joke"

Orange

If George Lucas thinks its shit (and how could a low level artist on WAR know this?) then that is a major plus for the game in my book.

@ Shikasama - you are spot on about Red Dead, about 2 months before release a supposed ex-employee was decrying it as a definite flop and a terrible game, it then goes on to score great reviews and sell millions.

Disgruntled ex-employees love making a lot of noise for attention.

64% prefer game discs to download

Orange

I prefer digital everything as I hate clutter as well as fiddling swapping discs about and putting them away again.

It is ridiculous though that a Steam copy of a new game usually costs at least 5 - 10 quid more than a boxed copy posted from a shop.

APB European release on 2nd July

Orange

Have to say I hate pay as you go and it's turned me off from buying the game on release. I'm a serial alt-tabber / windowed mode gamer, so I like switching between the game and other stuff while it's running. I also like playing games at my own speed and having a clock counting down my remaining time would be annoying.

What I've played didn't convince me it would be worth subbing to either, although I'll wait for the reviews and post-release feedback to see how it's going on that front.

Problem was it wasn't finished in the upper levels and it just had too well established a competitor and comparison point in WoW.

Alpha Protocol

Orange

It's a must-buy for me, and sounds suitably different.

Agree though that the shooting mechanics for a real world game sound a bit immersion breaking. As much as I like RPGs, it shouldn't be totally stats based to the point of lacking realism.

New Dragon Age in early 2011

Orange

NWN2 suffered from bugs on release, also not sure there's much difference between it and DA quality-wise. It was expansions like Mask of the Betrayer which really made NWN2. Will be interesting to see how the DA expansions measure up to that, I expect they'll be poor.

Warhammer 40K MMO to be unveiled at E3

Orange

All they have to do is make a better version of planetside, then follow the WoW path of using the RTS credibility and storylines to lead into the mmo. It will succeed very nicely then.

Just don't make it WoW-like in gameplay.
