@Garulon not being able to sell your stuff is a huge restriction. Last month I made 439 from selling my old games privately. Under the MS model, I would have to sell or exchange them at GAME for a tiny fraction of their value.

Xboners are holding up Steam as a comparison, ignoring that Xbone only shares the negative aspects of Steam with very few of the positives.

The biggest advantage of PC is not Steam so much as having the option to use Steam, Green Man Gaming, Gamersgate, GoG, Gamestop (Impulse), Gamefly, Desura, etc. etc.

Many of these impose no DRM whatsoever.

But as usual the Xboners will stick their fingers in their ears and carry on with their Strawman argument.

People "openly troll playstation articles" as a reaction to the unbridled hype that precedes them in previews and screenshot articles. They are goaded into it by the omnipresent psybot circle jerk.

It's not exclusive to Sony products, but Sony do make an above average number of games where graphics are prioritised over new or interesting (or even just basically including some) gameplay, so the level of overhype and reaction are more noticeable.

Spec Analysis: PlayStation 4

Ford

@Imascatman American CPU, American GPU, Korean memory. OK.
1 0

Ford

@Casterleigh I was simplifying because any extra detail there was irrelevant to the point, which is that the faster, hotter memory is not useable by the CPU, and a single 1080p screen does not require such large amounts of GDDR5, no matter what you are drawing.
0 2

Ford

The Titan only has 6GB because even that is overkill for a graphics card driving three large monitors.

The PS4 does not actually need more than 2GB of GDDR5 for its graphics solution, because the most it will ever be driving is 1080p.

The only reason it has 8GB is because they went with a unified memory solution.

It is of no advantage to the CPU, where benchmarks prove time and again that memory speed is of little benefit to compute tasks. Diminishing returns kicked in at around the DDR2->3 jump. Graphics cards need it because they have to move large amounts of memory around.

Certainly, a modern CPU such as an Ivy Bridge i5 wouldn't have any use for that extra bandwidth, so it is certain that the puny mobile AMD chip in the PS3 won't have a clue what to do with it. It's a red herring in performance terms.

What it will be with with that much GDDR5 in the box is hot, so it will be noisy, even with that crappy CPU.

Overall it sounds rather poorly engineered.

Ford

wow, if you think it will ever be low enough latency based on the current TCP/IP standards, you haven't even used a Vita doing Remote Play.

TCP/IP is simply not the correct protocol for remote video, and it will be decades before we move to a newer standard. No matter how much you really want Sony's purchase of Gaikai to be a "#gamechanger".

Just take it for what it is, something you can't do on your console of choice. No need to go spitting venom at people who don't share your opinion.

Oh, and by the way, some of the pathetic self-righteousness displayed regarding Lexx's comment are absolutely pathetic. Get real, this is a videogame website.

PlayStation Vita's OS toured in images

Ford

To me it looks like a visual cacophony of every over-used design widget in existence. Icon contents are misaligned, there are too many icons on every screen, and a lot of them are meaningless. Every little part looks like it was designed by a different person, and overall it smacks of one of those amateur Aqua theme clones that you could get for Windows when OS X first became popular.

tl;dr: looks like a Chinese smartphone interface.
