Out This Week

MOH! Just Dance 2! Sonic!

This week sees the release of perhaps 2010's most controversial game: Medal of Honor. The Danger Close and DICE developed Afghanistan shooter has attracted attention from all quarters, not least because the Taliban are a playable multiplayer faction. Well, were. EA decided to change the name to Opposing Force last week. Finally, it's time to see what all the fuss is about.

Elsewhere we've got Just Dance 2, Ubisoft's sequel to its stupendously successful Wii dance game Just Dance, to contend with. Expect fireworks. Oh, and it's gonna be okay.

And on the download front old school Sonic fans will be all smiles when Sonic the Hedgehog: Episode 1 is released through interpipes. SEGA's said the game has been created to make the proper Sonic fans happy. But will you be?

This Week In Shops!

Medal of Honor

  • Developer: Danger Close Studios
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Formats: PC, PS3, Xbox 360

What is it? Afghanistan first-person shooter based packed with explosions and guns. What we think: Embargoes are a beautiful thing. Or horrible. Eurogamer's review will be published tomorrow.

Just Dance 2

  • Developer: MercurySteam
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Formats: Wii

What is it? Sequel to phenomenally successful dancing game. What we think: We're working hard at the review right now. "Obviously I'm a woman, so of course I like Just Dance," wrote Ellie in her preview.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1

  • Developer: Dimps, Sonic Team
  • Publisher: SEGA
  • Formats: PS3, Xbox 360, WiiWare, iOS

What is it? Downloadable 2D side-scrolling platformer designed to rekindle Sonic's old school spark. What we think? A review is inbound. For now, know that Dan Pearson wrote "a little part of me has fallen in love with him all over again" in his preview.

What Else?

Chart Predictions!

Each week one of the team will step up to predict the UK all-formats chart. The following predicts the outcome for the week beginning Friday 15th October (to be reported on Monday 18th October).

Oli Welsh, Reviews Editor

  • Medal of Honor
  • FIFA 11
  • PES 2011
  • F1 2010
  • Just Dance 2

"Can EA's hype machine beat EA's hype machine? That's the only question this week, with the relaunched Medal of Honor making its bid to dethrone FIFA. I think it'll manage it, if only for a week. Wii Party will loiter outside the top five and guaranteed mega-hit Just Dance 2 sneak in the back door, but Wii game sales are a marathon, not a sprint. The first Just Dance is still in the top ten after a year."

Eurogamer Editor Tom Bramwell made the inaugural chart prediction last week. He envisaged FIFA 11 at the top, PES 2011 in second, Enslaved third, F1 2010 fourth and Wii Party fifth. How did he do?

UK All-Formats Top 5 (reported this morning)

  • FIFA 11
  • PES 2011
  • Dead Rising 2
  • F1 2010
  • Halo: Reach
