OnLive monthly fee waived forever

"Which deserves a double woot woot."

Ambitious cloud gaming service OnLive has decided to scrap the monthly fee of $4.95.

That means you'll be able to instantly stream game demos as well as spectate, brag, watch videos, message people and make friends.

The only costs incurred now are from buying a three-day, five-day or full PlayPass.

"We've had a promotion waiving the monthly fee for the first year, so this announcement is confirming what we had hoped - that we can continue without a monthly fee beyond the first year," wrote OnLive boss Steve Perlman on the official blog.

"Although we wish we could have confirmed no monthly fee from the get-go, pioneering a major new video game paradigm is hard: we had to first grow to a large base of regular users before we could understand usage patterns and operating costs. Now that we've reached that stage, we can confidently say a monthly fee is not needed, which deserves a double WOOT! WOOT!"

With the announcement came news of new developments in the pipeline: TV adaptors and OnLive game pads are being manufactured, and video quality is being improved and latency lowered.

You can sign-up for OnLive now.
