Full Spectrum Warrior sequel in development

Pandemic Studios is working on a sequel to Full Spectrum Warrior, the developer confirmed this week, although it has yet to decide whether to focus on current console technology or look forward to the next generation instead.

"Yes, we are working on a sequel; the nature of it is still to be determined," a Pandemic rep told IGN. "That's one of the things we're exploring," he said of platform possibilities, "whether it will be on this generation or next."

More interesting for existing fans of the unique Xbox shooter though will be the promise of long-awaited downloadable content over Live, which will kick off on October 4th with the release of the freely available "Epilogue 1" mission.

A second mission, Epilogue 2, will be made available roughly a month later, although publisher THQ is still debating whether to release it for free as well, or charge a small premium for it. Both missions will be included in the PC version of the game, which is due out in Europe next Friday, October 1st.

According to reports, Epilogue 1 is a Search and Destroy mission that takes place shortly after the end of the game, as the player sets off to try and rout fictional terrorist Al Afad's two sons as they attempt to take control of the region.

The first mission deals with son number one, Al Samir, who has taken over a radio tower which he's using to command his forces. Your goal is to use Alpha and Bravo teams to clear a path through a nearby shantytown so that UN CASEVAC site can be established to help the locals, before moving on to the command station and taking down Al Samir.

Pandemic says the two levels will be harder (although not too hard), and there will be some subtle changes for fans to spot. For example, more enemies will be placed on balconies and rooftops, making a bit more use of the third dimension in what was otherwise quite a flat game.

We'll let you know what we think of Epilogue 1 when we get our hands on it, and will of course let you know the fate of Epilogue 2 and whether Xbox owners will be expected to pay for it.
