Will there be another Carmageddon?

You'd think so given they announced it last year. Same for Conflict: Vietnam...

This week Britsoft publisher SCi Games found its way into headlines on both sides of the pond after a financial report mentioned a new Carmageddon title, scheduled for a provisional 2005 release date on PS2, Xbox and PC. Some folks also got rather excited about mention of Conflict: Vietnam, a September 2004 target on PS2/Xbox/PC.

We were going to ignore it, but in the end we've had a few emails from people asking (though thankfully none complaining) why it is we haven't bothered to write anything about it. Well, in answer to all two-and-a-half of you, we have written about it. Last December.

Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of people either don't remember last year's fairly similar financial report, or just plain didn't read it. At the time the British publisher mentioned Carmageddon and Conflict: Vietnam in the same terms, along with another, fourth Conflict: Something-or-other title, and - the bit that did win headlines - its acquisition of Confounding Factor's Galleon.

Hopefully that didn't sound too smug. We're not trying to be. We just want to clear up any feelings of déjà vu you may have been nursing.

Incidentally, SCi still isn't talking to anybody about Carmageddon - when quizzed about the developer behind it the other day, the publisher declined to comment. The original Carmageddon (and its rubbish sequels) came from the blood-soaked fingers of the Isle of Wight's Stainless Games. We also have no idea what will happen in this one, but anybody who played any of the others could no doubt hazard a pretty accurate guess...
