Jordan Mechner's Karateka remake due on XBLA in November

First screenshots within.

Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner's remake of his 1984 side-scrolling beat-'em-up Karateka is slated for a 14th November release on XBLA, according to Xbox.com.

A PSN and WiiU release are also in the works and while no release date has been announced, it's safe to assume they'll be released around the same time frame.

The reboot is being developed by Rise of the Argonauts developer Liquid Entertainment and being published by D3Publisher.

Much like Prince of Persia - and every other game from the 80s - Karateka tasks players with rescuing a kidnapped princess. This is done by fighting through a gauntlet of increasingly challenging one-on-one battles ala Punch-Out or Infinity Blade.

The remake's art is being handled by Jeff Matsuda who previously worked on animations for The Batman and Jackie Chan Adventures. The music is being composed Christopher Tin who won a Grammy Award for his work on Civilization 4.

And for comparison, here's someone beating the original Karateka in less than seven minutes.
