iPad update adds Game Center

Makes iPad a "completely new product."

Apple has finally added Game Center functionality to the iPad.

The iOS 4.2 update, out today, adds in multitasking, app folders, a unified mail inbox and new content sharing features as well. Apple's site has the full details.

Impressed? Well, you should be, reckons Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

"iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season," he boasted. "Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit."

The Xbox Live-esque Game Center launched on the iPhone in September, allowing users to compare stats, compete on leaderboards and win Achievements for a number of supported games – including Angry Birds, Bit.Trip Beat and Rage.
