Blitzkrieg expansion on its way

The first of two, and a standalone job to (das) boot.

As promised in CDV's recent preview of its 2004 line-up, World War II themed real-time strategy title Blitzkrieg will receive a standalone expansion pack, Burning Horizon, sometime during the second quarter.

The first of two planned expansions ahead of Blitzkrieg II's arrival in Q1 2005 (complete with new 3D approach), Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon consists of an 18-mission campaign centred around General Rommel and battles like the Ardennes, Tripolis, Tobruk, El Alamein, Sicily and obviously in Normandy.

Burning Horizon also introduce the Japanese army in some of its eight standalone missions that explore various theatres of war (including the Pacific). 50 new units make it into the mix, too, including Zero Fighters and Blenheim bombers, and players will be able to put them to use in airborne assaults, evacuations, covert operations, counter-attacks and even assassinations.

What's more, CDV is promising better AI - and, uniquely, even backing the claim up. The opposition in Burning Horizon won't just use longer words, they'll also seek out weak spots in the lines and clear minefields, and operate their air forces with ruthless efficiency. Blitzkrieg fans in need of more details should keep an eye on the game's newly launched official website.
