Ghost Recon 2 PC due in early 2005

PS2 and Xbox versions on track for November launch. Ubi also confirms that there will be two different versions, and lists some of the differences.

Ubisoft has revealed that the PC version of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 will now launch in "early 2005", having refused to comment on its target date for the Red Storm-developed tactical action game during a recent press event in London.

The French publisher also announced that the PS2 version of Ghost Recon 2 would be "a completely different game" to its Xbox and PC counterparts, confirming the news we brought you last week. The PS2 version is being developed "from the ground up" by Ubi's Shanghai studio, and will be a prequel to the Xbox and PC versions in development at Red Storm Entertainment, which are set four years later.

The PS2 version will also use the Unreal engine rather than the proprietary Ghost Recon engine utilised by Red Storm, benefits from Havok physics, and features "unique special effects, cinematic sequences, supporting characters, and online modes."

As it stands, the PS2 and Xbox versions are on track for "Holiday 2004". More specifically, according to representatives we spoke to during the aforementioned press event, the games will be out on November 25th in Europe, with the expected GameCube version appearing sometime later - possibly alongside the PC version early next year.
