Little Orpheus, the next game from the developer of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, launches today

Ivan a look.

The Chinese Room has released Little Orpheus, a side-scrolling adventure game exclusively on Apple Arcade.

The developer behind the wonderful Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther, now owned by Sumo Digital, said Little Orpheus is about "one comrade's journey to the centre of the Earth". It's set in 1962, when NASA is trying to put a man on the moon. Meanwhile, in Siberia, Soviet cosmonaut Ivan Ivanovich is dropped into an extinct volcano in his exploration capsule, Little Orpheus, to explore the centre of the earth.

Here's the official blurb: "Ivan vanishes, emerging three years later claiming to have saved the world. In a top-secret bunker, he is debriefed by the fearsome General Yurkovoi. Little Orpheus casts players as Ivan as he recounts an adventure beyond belief: a tale of lost civilisations, undersea kingdoms, and prehistoric jungles deep below the Earth's crust."

Little Orpheus is a serialised adventure inspired by movies such as Flash Gordon, Sinbad and The Land That Time Forgot. Here's creative director and The Chinese Room founder Dan Pinchbeck: "Little Orpheus is about the power of story-telling and our limitless imaginations. Our team is very proud and excited to finally be able to put Ivan's tale into the hands of players."

The soundtrack is by The Chinese Room co-founder Jessica Curry, and Jim Fowler.
