The video games industry is paying tribute to comic book legend Stan Lee, who died yesterday, aged 95.
Alongside Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Stan Lee helped create some of Marvel's most popular heroes, including the X-Men, Hulk, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Doctor Strange.
A younger generation of fans will know him simply as the figurehead of Marvel Comics - and famously for his cameo in every Marvel film.
Stan Lee recently appeared in Marvel's Spider-man, the excellent Insomniac-made game launched in September, and lent his voice to a dozen other games, including the Lego Marvel series.
But as an icon of popular culture, it is hard to overstate the impact of Stan Lee's work on the world of video games in general - something stated by many in gaming industry as they paid tribute to Stan Lee last night. Here is just a small selection:
The characters, stories and worlds he created have been a fundamental part of my life for so long. Sad day. https://t.co/FstiFdIrJT— Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) November 12, 2018

Meeting Stan Lee was one of the highlights of my life. And he?s signing a Fantastic Four book I wrote when I was at TSR, making the occasion doubly special. Needless to say he?ll be missed. pic.twitter.com/Y9TIEpkdCY— Warren Spector (@Warren_Spector) November 12, 2018
So long @TheRealStanLee - you were the first American to speak to me thru landscape format reprints of Spider-Man I'd read in Scotland in the 70s. I'd skip straight to the bullpen for sage advice and jokes. You're probably drinking mead in Asgard on your worthy way to Valhalla.— Frank O'Connor (@franklez) November 12, 2018
RIP, Stan. Thanks for everything.— Pete Hines (@DCDeacon) November 12, 2018
That was quite an innings Stan. You lived to see an era where your work became utterly unprecedented in its ubiquity. #RIPStanLee— Shahid Kamal Ahmad (@shahidkamal) November 12, 2018
Rest easy, Stan Lee. Can't say in words how much the characters and stories have meant to me and still influence me.— Jake Solomon (@SolomonJake) November 12, 2018
?Ever upward? is a great catchphrase for someone who did so much to shape modern pop culture and yet still felt like he didn?t belong and that there was more he could be doing. It?s sad, but Stan Lee created entire worlds for us to get lost in, and that?s some legacy.— Aoife Wilson (@AoifeLockhart) November 12, 2018
