Painkiller making (another) return with Hell & Damnation

Polish studio on development duties, Unreal Engine 3 under the bonnet.

Over-the-top PC shooter series Painkiller is making a return with Hell & Damnation, a new outing overseen by Nordic games and being developed by Polish studio The Farm 51.

It'll be the eighth installment in a series kicked off by People Can Fly, an outfit that went on to make the critically adored but commercially disappointing Bulletstorm and that has since gone on to work on Gears of War prequel, Judgement.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation retains the fast-paced shooting that made the series' name, and it'll be running on Unreal Engine 3.

"We're proud of the shiny new splendor of the game's graphics, but we're doubly proud we've made player skill the most important part of the game," Nordic Games' Reinhard Pollice proudly said. "In addition to the single player campaign, we're putting a tremendous emphasis on the game's multiplayer component."
