40% of all sales digital in three years

Take-Two: Discs not going away though.

40 per cent of all Take-Two Interactive's sales in three years time will be digitally distributed titles, CEO Strauss Zelnick has predicted, but that doesn't mean the death of the game disc.

Zelnick told Gamasutra, "Right now, digital distribution of our interactive entertainment represents something less than 15 per cent of our revenue, and that's clearly growing."

He added that in three years time, "I think you can see digital distribution to be 20, 30, 40 per cent of our business."

However, Zelnick stressed that he didn't see this as a threat to the traditional game disc. "Packaged goods isn't going away for our business... because we have huge file sizes. It's pretty hard to interact with huge file sizes where latency issues are meaningful, if you're entirely in the cloud."

Take-Two Interactive owns both Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games and 2K Games, custodian of the BioShock, Civilization and Borderlands franchises.
