@DamoVotf He's a good choice of hero, bad choice for a solo-offlane suicide role. With no decent disengage, distant farming skill or escape, the most he can do is heal himself as he takes considerable damage - and with 3 people wailing on just you, that doesn't take long.

Warlock is, IMO, best suited for mid. He can dominate that lane plus, earlier 6 means he can gank effectively by dropping the golem.

But for solo offlane vs a Tri, you really need someone invis like a Clinkz or Bounty Hunter, Clockwerk for his cogs, Magnus for easy-ish impale escape, etc.
Interesting I had him pinged into the team support role, and hadnt really thought of the solo off lane role. I was thinking the DS is the best off laner solo. In a tri lane is stealth really that effective?

Im busy next few days so probably wont be back on until Sunday.

So I tried out Viper in a bot match - fantastic.

Then I used him vs humans and got utterly owned constantly by a Bounty Hunter+Sniper combo. Even spamming the map with sentry wards and getting decent items were nothing against that deadly sniper.

Figure he would be great as part of a well-co-ordinated team

    @Gunzberg He isn't. ):
Viper is a fun hero to play as, but he's best used as a counter pick to a carry because the ult goes through magic resistance. Though the damage'll get cancelled, you can still slow their attack speed something rotten. This makes him useful vs BKB carriers or someone like a Lifestealer.
His damage falls off beyond level 11 though. Stat gain isn't good enough, and his orb gets negated at higher levels. Combine that plus his low attack ranged for a range hero and... well, it's just disappointing.

Bump on that low attack range.

If you haven't played a MOBA before, make sure you do the training and then play co-op matches vs. bots before you jump in. Essential stuff.

Extremely useful guide. His videos go a long way to teaching you some of the mechanics too.

Other than that, trial and error baby.

@Gunzberg And that's because Drow has a massive steroid! Over 250 damage WITHOUT ITEMS AT 25 T_T
Still, you never see her picked it pro games.

Just had some serious fun as bounty hunter. Figured out how to use him properly. Dominated early and mid-game and only got into trouble when the enemy team only moved around in a group. Then my relatively low hp and high dps didnt really help.

But seriously a lot of ganking fun for the first half of the match

I get the feeling Gunz is going to try Rikki and lose the plot!

@Rivuzu Drow is just not a serious hero for pro games, same as Rikki. She needs mid really for the farm and levels and there are just better contenders there.

I liked Bounty Hunter too, but I get the feeling stealth chars are too easy to block out if a team knows what it's doing.

Really enjoyed the last game last night. Pub stomping (well 1 out of 2!) with an awesome win to finish.

Had my eye on Rikki, seems positioning for the backstab is quite important. Also wish to try Invoker with his 10 spells and Siren Naga out if I am in a good team.

@DamoVotf Riki is actually (or was up until about Jan this year) a very popular pick in the SEA area because of Wisp (aka Io). Tether to Riki, have him use Backstab = instant stun. Same reason Wisp/PA is a good partnering combo.

I understand I'm begging a bit here but if anyone has any spare player cards for the compendium that they aren't collecting I'd love them. Think they're tradable. My steam ID is my username here. Cheers!!

    ARGH!

How can you be a pug at lvl 3 who can't play ?

Seriously. Just lost a game against basically shadow fiend who was fed by our drow (13 deaths) and our spirit breaker (12 deaths).

How can you play drow so badly ? At lvl 3 you must have learnt at least 1 char by now...frustration, sigh!

Figure I should only do human matches with EGers. This is too depressing

Gunz you are going to get to level 30 and still find people who cant play!

Rikki backstab is very easy to land. Hadnt thought of IO combo, though its probably good for first few kills longer term its not really viable no?

We beat a team of lvl 30 ishes as if they were noobs. It was glorious. Level, as ever, seems only like a general indication of likely challenge, not a definite.
