I won't be buying a Wii U, certainly not at launch anyway. I just can't get excited about it at all, which in itself is a bit disturbing for me as I'm usually so excited about console launches that I always pre-order them to have at launch. I own a (unused) Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 after all and have had them since they were officially released in the this country (UK, in case you're wondering).

A lot of it comes from the controller, which looks intriguing I'll admit, but far too big and unwieldy for prolonged gaming sessions. Yes, I know there is a Classic controller available too but there's two things wrong with that: one, it means purchasing another peripheral; and, two, devoid of the tablet controller, the Wii U offers very little over the current PS3 or Xbox 360 from what I've seen. Also, multiformat games are not why I buy a new console - after all I have a PC that is constantly in a state of upgrade for those and they're far superior to any console version - no, I buy them for their exclusives and on the basis of the Wii I can't help but think that there's going to be so few that the Wii U will end up gathering dust in a year's time once the buzz has worn off, just like what happened with the Wii.

Of course, I'll have to try out the Wii U for myself at some point to test my theory about the controller but I'm in no rush. By waiting, I can gauge more accurately what the console's games are like and whether it is worth buying in, say, 18 months to two years time.

@Darren My thoughts are the same about the Wii U controller. I have one on pre-order but I don't know whether or not to keep it going. I have 2 weeks to make my mind up. I just think I'll use my 360 a lot more than this.

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but here's a couple of questions I don't *think* I've seen the answer to, regarding the Wii U VC/eShop:

-Are ALL Wii VC titles transferable (for example, non-Nintendo games such as Sonic 2)?
-Are transferred VC titles playable on the GamePad? What about the ones that had that stupid glitch that didn't work properly with component cables?

I just want to know if I can play Majora's Mask in bed, really.

    - Yes, all VC games bought legitimatly from the VC store are are transferable, though you will need to retain your Wii console to do this.
    - This one is tricky, they may provide support at some point to allow Eshop purchases to be played on the game pad, but at the moment we just have to assume VC will only be playable through the consoles "Wii mode" which does not allow gamepad play.

I too would like to play some sweet MM on the gamepad though

See I find this strange. As my own personal hype for Wii U has been building, I've found myself now considering selling my 360 as it'll be obselete. Okay it has a good back catalogue, but everything I've wanted to play, I have. Wii U provides me with the gamepad, a 'classic' Xbox rip-off controller and the waggle-wands. I have every method of play I want, and 90% of Xbox games are multiplatform anyway and I'll just play them on Wii U. It was NECESSARY to own a 360 or a PS3 during the last Nintendo gen, I just don't feel this is the case any more and Nintendo is always the console with the best exclusives. I'll also be able to fetch a decent amount for the 360 before the MS/Sony next-gen arrives.

Also, the gamepad unwieldy? Have you tried it? It's one of the most comfortable pads I've ever held (for the hour I've used it, at least). It's ergonomic beauty.

Let's not run before we can walk. We're still at the giddy stage of ordering from various places, then cancelling, then re-ordering, then switching to somewhere else because you can save tuppence, then listing what games you're buying, then changing that, then asking the forum what they should buy as they don't have the capacity to make their own decisions. It's riveting enough as it is without adding shipping dates to the melee.

I'm also appalled at Darren. A well earned reputation as the forum geek and he's still poncing about on Windows 7. Shameful.

IGN's Audrey Drake spends a night playing the Wii-U:

I was on the fence before, I need to buy one at launch now. Damn it.

This basically. My 360 is getting sold towards this to be honest. Need a fresh way to play games

Playing VC games on the GamePad was on of the reasons I wanted this thing. With 'Wii mode' it now sounds unlikely, but with VC games likely appearing on the eShop, for the Wii U, I imagine those who have already bought them once will be able to download updated versions for free.

Why would the older eshop games have to run in Wii mode? Aren't the same games available on the Wii U's store too? Or are the Wii and Wii U's stores going to stay seperate?

Is it true that there will only be 25000 in the UK at launch? Hopefully my pre-order from Shopto arrives on launch day. Pre-ordered on the day of the price announcement.

Yes. And it's also true I received an email from Nintendo saying You weren't getting one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Just drama to boost pre orders imo

Amazon have placed both SKUS back on the preorder list, so I'd assume they've discovered they have a larger allocation. I think this 25,000 is just like the Toys R Us rumour.

i'm hoping its just gonna be permnantly on sale now and you will get it when shipments arrive.. and that there a mini price war between now and launch.

My only concern is the artificial withholding of stock, like with the Wii etc, it seems to be the thing to do, ever since the 360 launch.

It's what i'm currently getting with all my VC NES games on my 3DS. I can't see them charging people for the same VC games again if they're allowing you to bring your Wii ones across to the new console.
