WOW patch returns Onyxia to power

Update 3.2.2 is alive and kicking.

Ageing World of Warcraft boss Onyxia has soared back to prominence, as patch 3.2.2 rolls out and celebrates the MMO's fifth birthday.

She used to be a challenging 40-person raid encounter, and takes a top role in the World of Warcraft lore as sibling to Nefarian and daughter of Deathwing - star of the Cataclysm expansion.

Onyxia, a dragon, will now be a 10- or 25-person raid encounter at level 80, and will drop much more powerful versions of her original treasures. There's even a chance to snag a flying mount modelled on Onyxia herself, granting a 310 per cent speed bonus.

The battle has also been adjusted slightly, although the dangers of the whelp eggs and her devastating Deep Breath remain.

Onyxia headlines the patch, then, but there a wealth of changes (class tweaks included) besides. Those can be found on the World of Warcraft website.

    YAY Ony is back! Watch the people how used to farm her solo at 80 get bitchslapped by her, only the vanilla players have any repect for her. How that is going to change now :)

    Go to google, type in WoW patch mirrors and check out the masses of URLs for the patch, that's how I did mine this morning after failing with the wow downloader.

    I still like how Anarchy Online handled this a while ago with one of their highest level raids. For years people had descended into the dungeons beneath Camelot to slay the dragon in its depths - then one patch day everyone logged on to raid it - and its owner showed up after it died, somewhat displeased with the fact his pets keep getting killed.

    I never did kill Onyxia, sob. Wiped plenty of times to that frigging Deep Breath though. It was tough back in 2005 for a fresh-faced raiding guild, although there were enough well-oiled raiders on the server routinely smashing the shit out of the old girl.

    Wonder what her loot table looks like - I'd like to see a screenshot of that mount.

    Just tried it this morning in a PUG, wasn't too bad. A few mistakes by all but overall not too bad :)

    Nice retro loot, which while it does mean them copping out of new designs, I can't help but think those old designs were alot nicer than the current ones.

    It isn't free - this is what you're paying your subscription for. And it is recycled content, just like Naxxramas, and doubtless chunks of Cataclysm will be as well. Blizzard has cottoned on to the fact they don't need to create new dungeons because so many current players levelled straight past them, they can just retune the ones they have. And get paid for it too.

    Sorry your expecting brand new content every big update atm? Considering the dev team have been working on totally rewriting the old content which is a whole 80% of the game AND adding a whole new level of 80-85 content, PLUS adding new systems in JUST for Cati, which has been a heck of a lot more to do then both in TBC and Wrath... a few recycled bits of content isn't too bad overall..

    Many of the old vanilla lot have a slight foundness for Ony it's one of the more fun encounters, TBH it would have been better if her and the world bosses were updated on each expantion - however it's better late then never :)

    Regular epic flying mounts are only 280% speed, so 310% is actually an increase of 30% regular movement speed - not a huge bonus, but a nice boost considering how much time in the game you will spend travelling.

    There have already been several 310% mounts - the ones that come to mind are the rewards for the top 0.5% of players in arena each season, Ashes of A'lar rare drop from Kael'thas in Tempest Keep, and the rewards for the achievement "Glory of the Ulduar Raider". Theres probably a few more.

    Original high end content that consists of more than 1 room:
    Onyxia, Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj, Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, Zul'Gurub, Naxxramas.

    TBC high-end content that consists of more than 1 room:
    Karazhan, Gruul (marginal), Serpentshrine Cavern, The Eye, Black Temple, Sunwell Plateau, Zul'Aman.

    Wrath high-end content that consists of more than 1 room:
    Ulduar, Icecrown Citadel

    If you think they are putting more work in to WoW than they used to, you're dreaming.

    You forgot Vault of Archavon has more than one room.
    What about Naxx? Albeit recycled content it's still high-end content.

    Ahh! the good old days at 60 :) proud day it was when I finished my T2 set by getting the helm at our traditional sunday ony raid.
