Wii Ambassador Promotion launches

Recruit friends, earn prizes.

Nintendo has begun dishing out free Wii Points to anyone helping their friends and family get online.

This is known as the Ambassador Promotion scheme. We've told you about it before.

From today, then, 500 Wii Points (around £3.50 / €5) will be awarded every time a new person takes their Wii console online.

Gold status is earned at 10 recruits, a perk of which is free access to any NES title on Virtual Console. Platinum status is obtained at 20 recruits. Get there and all NES, SNES and N64 games on VC are yours for free. You'll also have amassed a whopping 10,000 Wii Points (around £70 / €100).

Anyone know a little more on how this actually works. Do you have to refer people with friend codes?

The idea is fairly sound...but I can't help but think that if Nintendo want more users online they should just offer a free download of Super Mario Bros or Donkey Kong for every user (and promote the hell out of the offer).

If Nintendo did a big ad campaign telling everyone they would get a free game if they connected their wii online..they'd see a flood of new connections.

Not such a bad deal. Trouble is everyone I know has a Wii already and has taken them online.

An add campaign woulden't work as many people buying a Wii simply aren't technical enough to set it up for online play. That's where the Ambassador idea comes in. You set it up for them (friends, family) and then get some points as a reward.

Awesome. Now if only I knew more old people.

I mean, everyone I know is at least knowledgeable enough to connect their console to the internet by themselves. How am I supposed to take advantage of this offer?

I suggest they hold an annual Wii Ambassadors Reception, at which huge piles of Fererro Rocher are passed around by penguins.

I have a neighbour with a Wii and Wii Fit only. I might suggest he gets it online if you can suggest a good reason to do so (I don't have a Wii). Can you download demos of games or videos etc like XBL?

You can download videos of upcoming games on Nintendo Channel, and also demos of DS games there.

You can check the weather and the news, too.

    Come on people!

WHY THE HELL are you negating kipper?

    Thats a valid question!
  • kipper #11 2 years ago

    Thanks for the info oerhört.
Can you download demos of Wii games though? That would be more useful, since he does not have a DS. For weather and news I think he would just put on the tv.

    kipper

WiiWare games. There are a few gems on there.
    Virtual Console.

...but if he only wants to stick with Wii Fit...

I'm surprised you have to ask but you can't download Wii demos.

You should try and get your friend to play more Wii games.

Thanks Malexous for the info. I will mention it to my neighbour next time we meet. I think to get him interested in playing games the best thing will be just to lend him my used Games magazines so he can read reviews. He's not likely to go browsing the internet for info.
