"We're making Pikmin" - Miyamoto News

DS Wii News by Ellie Gibson

17 July, 2008

Good news for fans of GameCube classic Pikmin - a sequel is on the way, according to none other than Shigeru Miyamoto.

He was speaking during an invite-only developer roundtable at E3, where he was asked about Nintendo's attititude to core gaming, and whether there were plans for a new Pikmin game in the future.

"I'm actually on the same floor as all of my staff, and I sit at the same type of desk as all of them. Because of all the commication involved I try and sit as close as possible," Miyamoto replied. "Among those staff, there's staff from the Pikmin team, staff from the Zelda team, and they're all enjoying creating new games. "

He went on to question the definition of "core", suggesting, "It could apply to games with better graphics, or games that have more involved story or other elements. If we forget about those elements too, that will detract from our work.

"So we continue with investigating all types of games. When it's time to announce such a title, I'll announce it - so look forward to it."

And just when the audience thought that was it, Miyamoto added, "We're making Pikmin."

He didn't reveal when it'll be out, unamazingly.

Meanwhile, bad news for Wave Race fans - according to Wii Sports Resort producer Katsuya Eguchi there are no plans to produce another game in the series. However, he confirmed that the producer of the original Wave Race and members of the development team are working on Wii Sports Resort, and suggested the jetski mini-game in it will be just as good.

In fact, Eguchi added, "I am confident it will exceed Wave Race in depth, and players will get sufficient enjoyment from it."

I'm looking forward to Wii Sports Resort (WSR) and especially the jet ski game BUT! I really don't see this statement being true.

LOL at Fernando. Obviously not feeling the Shiggsy love. Pikmin was utterly blinding, Pikmin 2 was one of the most fun two player games ever. They're both an awful lot better than most Wii games so I suggest you get yourselves on to E-bay and feel the love.

'sufficient' enjoyment? That's a great phrase. Must tell my mates how I sufficiently enjoyed something when next I see them.

Whoopee, confirmation of what just about everyone "knows". Call me sceptical but just telling us that these things are under development without even the roughest of dates or timelines isn't worth a lot to me.

This implies to me that they really have shown us everything they'll have until next E3. So we had a glut of new iterations of their franchises in the first year to year and a half and then? Well, then the usual Nintendo drip feed returns. Nothing much for another year or two. No information at all on any "big" games (I never really considered Animal Crossing a big game, no doubt I'm wrong there, but it just doesn't appeal to me).

Oh, and I don't think that the Wave Race knockoff in Wii Sports 2 will really replace Wave Race. Until they release a load more information I'm assuming extremely limited track and mode selection. "Sufficient enjoyment"? That's probably the weakest statement I've ever heard from a game developer. I've no doubt that it was just a bad choice of words by the interpreter (if he needed an interpreter, I don't know the guy) but it strikes me as a bit ironic; more and more I believe that this is Nintendos new policy, just enough that people buy the newest version but only just enough.

From Merriam-Webster: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionar...

synonyms sufficient, enough, adequate, competent mean being what is necessary or desirable. sufficient suggests a close meeting of a need.

Although I haven't a clue who you were aiming that at I'd like to say; no Sean, their main goal is making money,or "increasing shareholder value" rather.

Whether or not they "piss off" the "core" gamer is just a side effect of their actions to achieve that goal. They promised something for those "core" gamers at E3 and so far haven't shown anything 1st party that I recognise as "core". I'm seriously disappointed by their lack of titles for the rest of this year and the next.

HAIL, THE KING OF THE CLOTTON EMPIRE WILL GIVE HIS DEVINE WISDOM:

How dare you criticise the one true god Miyamoto! He is the bringer of great games and Pikmin 3 will bring great riches to all of our empires and brighten up your pathetic existences!

Am I the only one who thinks that, not only the actual Pikmin themselves are…cute, but also the monsters that inhabit the world are too.

I suggest that the new game have an online multiplayer mode so I can defeat you in the gaming world as well.

The Wii Controller is well suited to Pikmin for great game play.

NOW GET BACK TO WORK AND EARN ME SOME TAXES SO I CAN PLAY GAMES ALL DAY AND AFFORD TO BUY THIS MAGNIFICENT GAME WHEN IT COMES OUT!

P.S.
We will be praying to the great creator, Miyamoto to release the game only when it is worthy of his standards. My great empire will sacrifice 100 Playstations in his honour on announcement of this game.

LONG LIVE PIKMIN!!!
