UK charts: new Zelda off track

Modern Warfare 2 out-guns competition.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks has failed to break into the UK all-formats top 10, reaching No. 12 after one week on sale.

Modern Warfare 2 unsurprisingly dominated the list, and has done since release on 10th November. Activision's chances of a Christmas number one, two weeks out, are overwhelming.

Few new games this week means little chart movement. Wii Sports Resort (2), Assassin's Creed II (3), Wii Fit Plus (4) and FIFA 10 (5) make up the top five. And New Super Mario Bros. Wii (6) and Mario & Sonic at the Olypmic Winter Games (7) follow.

Ubisoft's Just Dance leapt from 30th to eighth, and Forza Motorsport 3 (9) and Mario Kart Wii (10) round up the top 10.

Great to see Forza still doing well, along with AC2.

    ref: individuals charts

Really glad to see 'Rabbids Go Home' hanging in there.
A shallow, easy game but very charming and very fun.
Much better than its average mini-game predecessors

Err, Zelda was on sale for a day (11-12 Dec) not a week..

2 days. But thats when titles usually get their best sales.

What do Zelda: ST and a tiger have a common? Both have a long tail!

@uglygamer. My mistake, two days indeed.

Usually for unticipated, hyped, core-ish games I believe first week sales break down approximately like:

50% first day 50% next six days.

Factor in seasonal effects, ds demographics, and the fact that Zelda has a somewhat mixed audience and I believe this ratio could go to something like 30% - 70%.

Dont believe it will sell anywhere near Phantom hourglass btw

Having said that the game might not climb up the charts or even stay put as other games will probably see bigger seasonal lifts.

holly crap, it doesnt look very well for PS3 :-/

You can compare the all formats and individual charts and work out some interesting stuff.

As CoD:MW2 is still top, we can determine that 4th ind. place plus 9th ind. place is greater than 1st ind.

However Ass Creed is lower, so 6th+8th is less than 1st.

therefore it seems like 8th to 9th means fuck all, but there is a significant difference between 4th and 6th.

Also, Uncharted 2 will be gone next week. That's the only ranking PS3 exclusive.

Why is the 8th place missing?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is still in the top40.....why are people still buying it??
  • GoldLightan #15 2 years ago

@Kapo! it's on special offer in quite a few places.
  • matrim83 #16 2 years ago

Pity about Dragon Age. It deserves better than that.

At least it did OK in the NPD.
  • malexous #17 2 years ago

PH didn't have to fight with Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, NSMBWii, MW2, Assassin's Creed II, Mario Kart Wii.
We weren't in a recession. (although, the game industry is still healthy, isn't it?)
There weren't as many ("good quality";) games out to choose from. (The last NPD [America] attach rate report had the DS at 4.7)
Who knows how many have pirated the game.
We don't have a figure for how many they both actually sold.

So, let's give it some more time.

    Conspiracy!!!

Number 8 on the chart should be 'Just Dance' on the wii, which i'm sure is a great game, surely just a minor clerical error on eurogamer's part, but no.

Bizarrely, it entered the chart at number 30 last week and eurogamer omitted the number 30 from last week's sales chart.

Is it so dreadful a game eurogamer's trying to erase any evidence of it's existence from history?

    ^ Dammit, he's right!

I think you may have uncovered something big... Watch your back.

I didn't realise Zelda was out last week until a friend told me he'd got it on Friday evening. I've not finished Phantom Hourglass yet so I'll probably leave it until then.

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is still in the top40.....why are people still buying it?? "

After finally cracking and having a go of MW2 I think I might just re-invest in MW to!
  • Dizzy #22 2 years ago

    >It can't refuse. MS are giving it aways for free with every Elite sold.

Wow.. so plenty of elites selling then? Good news.
  • Incarta #23 2 years ago

Zelda did well considering the high profile games it was up against.
  • KDR_11k #24 2 years ago

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is still in the top40.....why are people still buying it??

That apparently also includes the fairly recent Wii version.
  • freakzilla #25 2 years ago

    no 39. UC2 :(
The fuck people? What else could they do? Great single player, good multiplayer, got co-op, best voice acting (except mark hamill) and it pleases the graphics whores too.

    @ guy below me.

Jeez I'm honestly surprised that the highest rated PS3 exclusive is at no 39 2 months after release. I thought PS3 gamers were starved of good games?

It's good to see that the hardcore are still supporting the Wii; I'm over the moon with "Just Dance" rising 17 places to claim the No7 spot in the "Individual Formats Chart."
