UK charts: Final Fantasy XIII is top
PS3 and 360 SKUs nearly neck and neck.
Final Fantasy XIII has become this year's fastest selling game and has topped the UK All-Formats chart.

Last week's leader, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, was pushed to second.
Ubisoft's Wii champion Just Dance was in third, Heavy Rain stayed in fourth and Wii Fit Plus was fifth.
Modern Warfare 2 edged up to sixth, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing was elbowed to seventh and Aliens vs. Predator fell to eighth. Wii Sports Resort took ninth and New Super Mario Bros. Wii rounded the chart off in 10th.
Superb Dawn of War II expansion Chaos Rising only just missed the top 10 and finished 14th, one spot behind the new Ben 10 game.
PS3 exclusive Yakuza 3 entered in 24th.
The Gold Edition of Resident Evil 5 pulled the game back into the top 40 in 31st, and SEGA's DS Sonic Collection entered in 35th.
Also released last Friday were Way of the Samurai (28th on Xbox 360, 24th on PS3), Avalon Code (MIA DS), Dancing on Ice (13th on Wii), Eye of Judgement: Legends (MIA PSP), Fat Princess (MIA PSP), Music for Everyone (MIA DS), XIII Century: Blood of Europe (MIA PC).

Counter to that is that 360 is about 2mil ahead in the uk so good going for PS3 to be ahead, that considered.

Was a little shocked to not be able to find the PS3 version. But then, the shop is tiny and the PS3 section is marginally bigger than the PSP section, which is to say, a lot smaller than the 360 part of the store
Either they sold out in a day or they never had any PS3 copies.

Simple fact, if you don't have a PS3 you will buy it on 360. Just like you will buy Bayonetta on PS3 when you only have a PS3. You (well, maybe here there are some, but generally, not) don't rush out to buy a system just for one game. Lot's of people there.

Just curious, but maybe that should be taken into account.

Pretty obvious really. A lot of people own a 360 and PS3, like myself, and opted for the superior version.

You have to add too that a lot of people bought PS3's in expectation that FFXIII was due to be an exclusive to the console. Many of those were going to stick to the PS3 version anyway.

It's an obvious assumption, based on the people I know. No, it's not a fact but take off those MS blinkers for a second and think about it, would you get the 360 version if you had a PS3? Most sane people wouldn't.

sales figures are all i care about, not `%` as 50% of 100 is 50, but 50% of 1M is 500,000 - and i know which one i'd see more as of a success.

To be fair they usually are, one quick look at most users profiles tells they they only have a 360 (in boabg's case) or only a PS3, etc. Of course, that doesn't automatically make them a fanboy but a lot of the time it is the case.

If there are so many more 360s why didn't that version outperform the PS3 one?
Pretty obvious really. A lot of people own a 360 and PS3, like myself, and opted for the superior version.

Or and most likely, not everyone who owns a 360 wanted the game? I know I didn't, and infact I only know a couple of people who did. Games aren't going to sell to everyone, and seeing as the franchise has been on the Playstation ever since Squenix moved on from Nintendo, they were bound to have more fans of the series owning their console.

Boy, you got to the party late! The first six were epic. Only three of the thirteen were PS only, and they weren't the best of them.

Glad to see its doing well.

did no-one notice only one 360 exclusive made it to the charts?

Would be interesting to see trade-in ratios as people buy the 360 bundle just for the 250Gb drive (I very nearly did exactly that myself yesterday).

No numbers means that it didn't break any (significant)records, although it did outsell games released this year(first week).

Nice spot with PS3 having 3 exclusives in the charts (which could also be a factor in the FFXIII situ as people go for Heavy Rain and Yakusa over FF with the plan of picking up FF at a later date)

And don't forget God of War III out this week too.

LBP was innovative and fun (But not without its shortcomings and its questionable GOTY status) and deserved a lot more success than it got. Heavy Rain can be summed up with this

I went with the ps3 version (RIP achievements) and I'm pretty glad I did.

Either way, good stuff that both sold well

Man, once again let down by peoples.
SEGA should have released it in summer though, hopefully sales will pick up once everyone's finished with FFXIII (which is great btw), but I doubt it.

Perhaps we are not having a clear picture as for example there would be lot more PS3 sales but lost due to these PS3 being almost exclusivilty used as BD player and so on.
I dont see this as a reinforcement of PS3's success but rather how much its had become a level playing field with rival console.

It really doesn't get given much chance either. Walk into a shop and you've got FFXIII thrust in you face on countless shelves, typically discounted, whilst you're lucky to find a copy of Yakuza 3 and certainly not discounted costing £10-£15 more. Massive shame, but I guess retail knows what's best for them.

I own a PS3 and I've never played a Final Fantasy game on the platform or its predecessors. The main reason being that I don't like JRPGs at the best of times so one which is virtually linear and is intercut with literally hours of cutscenes and exposition really doesn't do it for me. I'm sure I'm not alone.
But I am not surprised PS3 sold slightly more because the title has more familiarity to owners of that system and to be blunt, the version is markedly better too. It's quite obvious that with so much video content that the 360 version would be squeezed until its pips squeaked.

Speaking more generally, I'd be interested in learning how this sort of thing works these days. You have a publisher with a multiformat game, yet its advertised exclusively for one of those formats, or first for one then the other. Presumably one platform-holder has tipped the moneyhat, but how are these things arranged? Up for a bit of investigative journalism, EG?

Hmm yeah because MS are forcing us to buy 360's and games for the 360. Perhaps UK gamers just prefer the 360?
Anyway, you could just as easily say that the rest of the EU is Sony's bitch if you're going to be like that.
@Privatejoker - you mean the multiple disks and the slightly lower resolution graphics (which, btw, most reviews say are still gorgeous)
And yes, there is the compressed audio and FMV, but most people won't even notice it without hearing both.

I bet the joker dude is crying for me, I do not have a PS3 and I bought a Super Elite to celebrate on of my favourite franchises.

The reality is that if this was an exclusive game it would have shifted PS3's, if we go with the assumption that all 46% percent went to 360 only gamers which would make sense. Of that 46% of gamers who where happy to accept the inferior version, if it was PS3 only would they have bought a PS3? Of course we will never know what the figures would have been but this would have been a system seller for Sony.
Now I have tried to look at the objectively without bias, but those who don't agree feel free to mark me down.

360 version by the way, it is not bad.

I only have a PS3 and didn't buy Bayonetta because the port was so very bad. The negative effect on the gameplay was too much for me.
