UK chart: LEGO Potter blocks competition

Demon's Souls breaks into top 10.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 has stupefied the UK to top the regional all-formats software chart.

Traveller's Tales block remake of the bespectacled school of witchcraft and wizardry put an end to Red Dead Redemption's five-week run at the top. Rockstar's Wild West game, however, budged only one places to second.

There are three other new faces in the top 10 this week: 505's Naughty Bear in fifth, the outstanding Demon's Souls in sixth and Transformers: War for Cybertron in eighth.

Activision's new shooter Singularity fell flat and managed to reach only 38th.

Rounding out the rest of the top were Super Mario Galaxy (3), 2010 FIFA World Cup (4), Just Dance (7), Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (9) and Modern Warfare 2 (10).

    Wow @ Demon's Souls.

  • jag10 #2 2 years ago

how did demons souls get 6th when most people imported it.
  • MyPointIs #3 2 years ago

I'm sorry for Raven, it seems Activision's strategy worked out well. They'll be on the call of duty soon enough.

I'm also surprised to see 505's Naught Bear with such a strong start. Is it any good?

I'll be picking up a copy of Singularity on PS3 as soon as it dips below £30.
  • PoundHound #5 2 years ago

I knew Singularity would do badly. I got into the top 300 on the online leaderboards last night. Any other game online I'm lucky to break the top million :)

It's a real shame the game is going to slip past unnoticed.

Yeah I'm surprised at the Naughty Bear performance too - it's not been reviewed yet and and hasn't looked good in the videos. I'd presumed it was XBLA/PSN rather than full price release too.

    when most people

Surely, by most prople you mean the people who post on video-game threads.

    "it's not been reviewed yet"

Says it all really. Its crap.
  • muscleblade #9 2 years ago

Im buying Singularity as soon as im done with the very good game called Alan Wake.
  • youhavenomail #10 2 years ago

Hey, maybe the performance of Demon's Souls will encourage publishers to release other games that came out on import ages ago and by all accounts should have no mass appeal in the UK. Captain Rainbow, I choose you!

Singularity is garbage, surprised it charted at all.
  • Inigo #12 2 years ago

I forgot that Demon's Souls was out, must get it now!!
  • brseg #13 2 years ago

Naughty Bear had quite a lot of online advertising and some funny trailers over the months - so it looks like the ad guys did well there (since theres no demo + a review embargo).

Dont know about Singularity. It looks pretty interesting. It had very little marketing that I saw. Perhaps its one of those quirks, where it will hit next weeks chart instead.

You could probably buy every copy of Singularity in the UK and it would still struggle to hit the charts. Activision are getting very odd.

I'm surprised that Naughty Teddy has beaten both Demon's Souls and Transformers though.

Wow, cant beleive Demon's Souls sold that well

Great! I know im loving it, the future of 'proper' non casual gaming isnt dead afterall huh :-)

edit: and thats all formats... i really am impressed with my fellow Brits!

Great news on both Lego Harry Potter (good because its a very fun game that's even bigger and better than Lego Star Wars, the pinnacle of the series previously) and Demon's Souls (because its fucking ace), managed to give both games a fair bit of love before the drunken disappointement of England vs Germany (due to getting them delivered on Thursday and being off work all week), both are absolutely superb. Also Demon's Souls getting into the top 10 actually restores some faith in the public, who I thought would pass over it because its actually an innovative game, and not called Call of Duty.
  • KDR_11k #17 2 years ago

Quite high entry for Naughty Bear, I really want to see a review now.
  • brseg #18 2 years ago

Theres currently 1 review on metacritic for Naughty Bear (xbox), its a 5/10 and reads v much as expected really.
  • Retro_ #19 2 years ago

Well dome Demon's souls. Also, YAY! will pick up Singularity as soon as the price drops to £20 which with luck, will be pretty soon !
  • makeamazing #20 2 years ago

Yeah also going to get singularity at some point, but its on my buy new when its cheap list. Looks quite interesting from what ive seen, but not good enough to justify the cost (especially as i just purchased Harry Potter and Demon Souls).
  • TopKatt #21 2 years ago

Is it just me by the way or does the cost of new games in supermarkets seem to have crept up? It wasn't long ago that you could pick up most new releases for about £30 to£35 in asda or tesco, now they're all hovering around the £40 mark.
  • Mkwone #22 2 years ago

I'm suprised Lego Harry Potter did that well. Was expecting it to chart, but to topple both Red Dead and Mario Galaxy, wow.

It is a great game, and can be gotten for a great price. Sainsburys were doing PS3, 360 & Wii for £25, not sure if it's still that price.

So much to do as well. Played several hours worth and i'm still sub 8%
  • dingo75 #23 2 years ago

When is the review embargo for Naughty Bear lifted?
  • bratmandu #24 2 years ago

Lego Harry Potter - you'll shit bricks.
