Tony Hawk wants Ride sequel

Hopes peripheral can find wider use.

Pro skater Tony Hawk has said that he really wants to see a sequel to the latest game to bear his name, Ride, and that he hopes we'll see more releases using its unique skateboard peripheral in the future.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's all systems go with trying to make at least a sequel for this, because I feel like we've only just really tapped what's possible with this technology," Hawk told GameSpot.

Apparently the birdman thinks that there's room for improvement in the current game, which came out in the US last week and will be released in Europe on 4th December, especially in the way you "transition from the vert mode to the street mode".

"I'm sure there's more of a seamless way to do that, but we had to separate it for this first one, just because we wanted to get it finished and get it tight," he explained.

As for the board itself, he reckons "first priority" after skateboarding is snowboarding, "and beyond that I'd love to do a surfing game".

All that probably depends on how well the game goes down with fans. We're still waiting on review code, what with the late European launch, but the game has struggled to impress US critics.

Quite. Since it's possible that it might one day be made to work, and you've barely tapped on that, by all accounts.

    did he see the reviews?

even gametrailers shot it down (4.6), this game may actually be a very disgraceful end to what once was an amazing franchise.

when most of the US reviewers say the 'board' doesn't work at all at turning so much that even GT said it was impossible to play the game without being on easy which is basically an on rail shooter mode and the senors don't pick up all the time making the game less fun to play..

If there is somehow a squel, expect to buy a 'improved' board too in 6 months time, like GH, advoid buying this 'first' game like a plague, your wasting your money until the tech improves

I foresee great amounts of sarcasm for this comments thread. The reviews of this game speak volumes.

That metacritic link is everything that is wrong with reviews these days. 3 reviews which are 90+ and everything else is below 60.

I understand that different people can have different opinions but surely they cant be that different.

Honestly, this game really looks like suck. TH used to be awesome, and even if the new games were getting stale, at least the unchanged gameplay was still fun.

Of course, they just had to go and ruin it.

Not really a valid comparison, as the mkI and mkII Guitar Hero guitars worked just fine. They made progressive improvements, as with all technology, but I still have my original GH1 SG for PS2, and whilst it's nowhere near as nice to play, hold or look at as the GHWT or Beatles guitars, I can still get decent scores on expert with it and it won't break. The Ride board just doesn't work. You can't play the game with it.

Ride was a bad BAD title. Why make a surfing game when the board didnt even work good on your original game? Not only its bad board but doesnt even respond half the times correctly. By the time you manage to correfct it, natal will be replacing you I'm afraid... and no fake board needed o.O

Truth be told, im not into skating at all so I dont care but thats how things look like. I feel bad for those who paid the game in the first place. I know one and he wouldnt stop swearing. Its that bad :S

He thinks there is room for improvement now the game has been released ? he didn't mention that bit prior to release.

@Zomoniac: just wondering, what are the differences between old and new guitars? I still use the Xplorer from GH2 myself, I've also tried the RB one but didn't feel too good. My brother uses that instead. How's the GHWT one?

Maybe it's time for Yanya Caballista 2? This board thing can't be any worse than the clip-on joypad board...
