Spore slips to 2008

Expected in spring.

A financial paper from EA has revealed that Spore has slipped out of fiscal 2008, meaning that we won't see it until at least next April.

However, big cheese John Riccitiello was close at hand to promise Spore's release almost immediately as soon as fiscal 2009 begins.

"Spore is a title we have enormous confidence in," he told analysts. "I've had the chance to review the title three times in my short return to the EA and it looks fantastic."

"I will also tell you that its release will be right up [to] the bubble in Q4 [of fiscal '08], if not sometime in early fiscal '09 so we don't feel comfortable in forecasting it."

Spore is the brainchild of Sims creator Will Wright. It lets you define and control life from its single-celled beginnings right up to thinking beings venturing into space.

A DS version is being developed alongside the PC game, although no mention was made of its progress.

Head over to our Spore gamepage to see why the game has everyone and their evolutionary dog excited.

I'd love them to release a demo of this to see whether I like it. The novelty value of Black & White wore off quite quickly…

I would imagine the novelty value will wear off just as quickly here. Organisms evolve get technologically advanced go into space.

My intrest in the game took a nose dive when i saw a video of the 'end' game, where you were sending out tanks to enemy cities ?!? = jaw breaking yawn.

Wait did I read that right? DS version?

Although I'm looking forward to it, any game with that much scope and ambition is surely destined to disappoint. There's just no way it could be as good as you can imagine in your head.

    Yaaaaay \o/
Hope it's as addictive as the sims.

    Boooooo. :(
    It's been hella delayed.

It'll be another Fable - everyone hyping it up, and ultimately it'll disappoint.

Features have already been dropped, such as the water-stage of evolution. EA announced this way too early.

    "ooh lovely skirt Bethanny"

    "oooh thank you Claudia"

"Would you like to see my man pussy Bethanny?

"ooh why Claudia i can already see it hanging out, looks like the last cod in the shop"

Sigh. The glass is always half empty when it comes to the comments in threads like this.

It sounds extremely ambitious and even if it doesn't acheive everything it sets out to do, I'm sure it will do plenty of things brilliantly.

Just like Fable and Black And White.

    meh.

something tells me this is an impressive tech demo, but there's little in the way of game there.

Guess they should have held back on their press push by a year or two? Echoes of Half-Life 2 here...

I like the sound of this game and what it's trying to do but have to agree with everyone else that the lessons learned from Fable and B&W mean I won't be getting excited until something's actually released and there's a real game to gauge against the hype.

This 'game' probably is of limited appeal but I'm definitely one of the people it appeals to. I just love the idea of being able to design everything yourself.
