ShopTo to cut cost of DSi by £15

GAME also set to announce "new pricing".

Following the drop in the trade price of the Nintendo DSi, UK retailer ShopTo has plans to cut the cost price to consumers by £15.

The handheld currently costs £149.99 on ShopTo, but the retailer plans to reduce that shortly.

"I can't disclose our official trade price as I will go against our supplier contract, but I can tell you that our cost price will be dropped by around £15.00," ShopTo's Igor Cipolletta revealed. "Therefore, we will be able to drop the RRP to £129.99 or less."

Nintendo announced a drop in the DSi trade price earlier this week, although exact numbers were not announced. The new cost comes into effect on 18th June. Specific pricing, however, will be determined by individual retailers.

UK mega-chain GAME wouldn't comment directly on how much it will be selling DS units for come 18th June, but did say there are plans for change.

"Price cuts from the manufacturers are always good news, and our customers will welcome the announcement from Nintendo," said Neil Ashurst, head of UK PR. "We will announce our new pricing in due course.

"There are already some great deals in our stores and online on the DS range and we have a lot more planned in the summer months."

For some stupid reason I'm tempted to get a DSi despite hardly ever playing my Lite and being very interested in the 3DS. Must... resist...

    So.....£20 then, not £15.

SHAME ABOUT SHOP.TO'S CREDIT AND DEBIT CARD FRAUD THOUGH
  • dfish #9 2 years ago

never mind the fraud debacle, what about ignoring important account balance emails until phone calls are made, a measure of a dodgy business if you ask me. i've heard too much bad rumours including about Igor having previously had his trading license suspended, no idea if there was any truth to it, gotta admit its an efficient operation with a fast turnaround but if you're going to buy there use Paypal for heavens sake. better still use play/amazon or the up and coming thehut.com
To those thinking of a dsi bear in mind playing ds games on a 3ds will mean the image is upscaled with all the craptastic image quality that will entail. It will like playing wii games on a HD telly. the dsi xl screen is the definitive way to see DS games.

There was a very similar news story when EG made some kind of business arrangement with another company. Sorry for being vague. It was a while ago. Pretty sure it was about Swapgame.com though.

Really smacks their editorial integrity in the balls, if you ask me.

@Beano, I know others have already given you links, but I'll also add that my girlfriend's debit card got unautorised charges made to it very soon after using it at shopto. She'd never used her card online at any other site, so we're pretty certain shopto (or their card handler) were the culprits, or at least the point of a security breach.

(And boy do I feel guilty seems as she was buying me a birthday present...!)

It was only after our experience that I started looking on here and elsewhere online and discovered other stories of woe...

Needless to say shopto have not got another of our pennies since.

Of course Game didn't say anything. Their prices fail in comparison to ShopTo. :-/
