SEGA closing Chromehounds servers

Mech the most of it before January.

SEGA has announced that multiplayer servers for Xbox 360 game Chromehounds will close on 6th January 2010.

"At this time, all online components for Chromehounds will no longer be accessible and the game will only be available for play in offline modes," SEGA forum admin Clumsyorchid informed fans.

We didn't really like Chromehounds, but the multiplayer was probably the best bit.

Lets hope that this makes a few people get on and have a few games before the close.

This game failed for me the moment you got an advantage playing online by building mechs in stupid ways - while I loved the freedom of the mech builder it needed some restrictions.

We should all go back for one last blast. Was good fun back in the day.

shame to hear it, I hadf a lot of fun playing Chromehounds with my squad, though I never had enough time to devote to it to make the most of it. Was a cruelly underrated gem, though.

So it's impossible to patch the game and let players hose their own then...

    poor move Sega poor move.

very true but still they didn't have to follow suit, that annoys me about all console games, such as EA, you can only play online as much as they let you.

I think this should change, when a company decides to stop supporting something doesn't mean players want them to so patch it and let us play. PS i don't play this game just a sweeping staement thta i think should apply.

now i'm confused. i thought - assumed really - that the reason xbox owners pay a premium sub to play online was exactly to avoid this kind of shenanigans. admittedly, i arrive at this conclusion as a result of comments made whenever we hear of ps3 servers being shutdown - along the lines of "ha ha - you see, you don't get something for nothing".

i'm agnostic, as i never play online.

I guess they need those few extra yens to make the next 3D Sonic even worse than all the previous ones...

@justsomeone: AFAIK: back in the day when LIVE was just starting few big companies like EA or Sega did not want to support the new service. They made some demands - amongst other things, they wanted right to run their own servers ... thats why BF1943 was unplayable after the release, thats why my copy of Chromehounds is going to be useless starting next year.
