Scene It? demo on Live

Yes, we have.

Microsoft has released a demo version of upcoming movie-based Xbox 360 quiz game Scene it? Lights, Camera, Action, which is due out on 16th November according to Xbox.com.

The full game ships with four wireless buzzer controllers for chiming in with your answers, which has led some people to conclude it's a simple rip-off of the PlayStation 2's wildly popular Buzz series, but empirical evidence suggests Sony didn't actually invent quiz-show buzzers, so they're probably all right.

As for the demo, it's 619MB and that's about all we know from staring curiously at the Xbox Live Marketplace screen. Perhaps you could try it and then use the experience to help decide whether you like it enough to spend money on it. You can also read our first impressions from E3 to help make up your mind about what's on offer.

Look out for a review of Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action a) closer to release, b) providing we can get through more than half a dozen games without a fight breaking out, c) if we can be bothered to leave the pub early enough, d) all of the above.

and it's really rather good - much more difficult than I was expecting from a 'family' title.

Funny, the demo I played was utter dross.

Is it worth trying the demo if you only have one pad?
  • dr_shambles #5 4 years ago

    This was indeed most poor.

Seemed really slow and disjointed for a party game.
  • Darren #6 4 years ago

It's a shit demo. You can only play it once because the questions ALL repeat the second time round meaning that you can easily get 100%. It's not exactly thrilling and doesn't have the family appeal of a broad range trivia/general knowledge game as it focuses only on movies. Nicely presented but that's about it; not a purchase for me I'm afraid as I feel I can get more entertainment out of a £5 Movie Trivia paperback.

It's not too bad. My girlf liked it, and tellingly said the words, "This is very much unlike a 360 title."

    @Darren
But does it have jaggies? :)
  • DonnieDarko333 #9 4 years ago

I enjoyed it, great at christmas and better with the buzzers.

Jesus Christ Darren, it's a fecking demo, the full game probably won't be anywhere near as restrictive, you do realise this, right?
  • Darren #11 4 years ago

That's why I said the *DEMO* was shite, not the game, BBIAJ! You missed that part, didn't you? ;)

As a demo it totally fails to sell me the game because it doesn't have enough questions to make it worth playing more than once. And because it has a lack of questions in the demo, it leads me to think that the game itself won't have very many either. These kinds of games suffer because unless they have 100,000 questions, you'll find them repeating all too quickly. As a game to dig out once a year at Christmas or New Year, some people might find it fun but it isn't for me I'm afraid. Personally I'd rather play Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on DVD with my family and friends, or better still, Wii Sports. ;)

I'm not sure I liked how the game was actually laid out whilst playing, but I felt the questions (however limited they were) did show promise, anyone know if they were the only type of challenges in the game, or are there a whole lot more different types?
I'll be buying it because I fooking love movies, and it's not quite as annoying to get up and going as the board game is.
  • afghan_jones #13 4 years ago

its ok but some of the rounds dont work very well. the clip round asked you questions that had nothign to do with the clip other than being to do with the same film, and the 'finish the line' round just requires you to buzz as fast as possible and then pick one of 4 answers.

also, films is too restrictive for it to work as in a group of friends or family members, one or two people will always dominate which isnt a great thing for a quiz game.
  • tancredo #14 4 years ago

"Scene it" is a good start
Now we need Monopoly and Trivial
  • Darren #15 4 years ago

@afghan_jones - Exactly my point! The game has very limited appeal, seeing as it's focusing on only movies, and I can't see the missus or mother-in-law wanting to play it (does that sound sexist?). The appeal of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Weakest Link on DVD is that they cover a broad range of general knowledge therefore there's something for all the family to have a go at. I can't see this game selling to anyone but film buffs personally.

Let us have The Next Gen Trivial Pursuit! That would be more brainy and fun than film or pop based trivia. As others said, will always have some who wins all the time cos they are right proper potato couches and tapes Film 2007.

I'm pretty sure that there will be downloadable question packs out for it soon after launch, so the game might actually have some longevity (not sure if that's spelt right!). It's not my cup of tea....but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who will enjoy it.

Buzz was great fun on the PS2 and still gets played today - Scene It seemed to be a good imitation but had too much style of substance.

The format of Buzz is much more engrossing, this just felt really soul-less...

  • PiranhaUK #19 4 years ago

Far too specialised and the questions where far too abstract even for someone who watches alot of films....
  • hoos30 #20 4 years ago

Much better than I thought it was going to be and I actually enjoyed it. My in-laws had a blast with the demo. Will consider it for purchase.
  • SpeedyThing #21 4 years ago

Well they might have copied the buzzers but the actual game is about as different from Buzz as a multiple choice answer console answer game can probably be.

And that's not a good thing...

"But the questions have been lost, find them before the contestants get here."

They were clearly standing there already. They were also the same character models as the ones later on in the game.
While Buzz is a fun title to play once a year, this demo was horrible.
  • FortysixterUK #23 4 years ago

Couldn't answer hardly any of the questions.
    Conclusion- The game sucks.

"You can only play it once because the questions ALL repeat the second time round meaning that you can easily get 100%."

    It's a DEMO!!!

You didnt expect them to add all the questions to it did you? So you can keep playing the demo and never buy the game?
  • ronuds #25 4 years ago

The retail Scene It! game also comes with trivia questions based on TV shows and the like. So it's not all just movies...there are a few different categories. Don't know if they'll have all the same stuff for the 360 version, but I'd imagine so.

But the name "Scene It!" should tell you something...
