Sam & Max S1 coming to Xbox Live News

Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

12 June, 2009

The first season of Telltale's episodic adventure series Sam & Max is to be released via Xbox Live next week.

Sam & Max Save the World will cost 1600 Microsoft Points (GBP 13.60 / EUR 19.20). For that you'll get the six episodes first published on PC in 2006 and 2007, complete with improved gameplay and HD visuals.

You can find reviews of all the episodes elsewhere on Eurogamer, or just buy them for USD 19.95 (GBP 12 / EUR 14) from the Telltale store.

"complete with improved gameplay and HD visuals. "

Improved how? And how HD can it get? The originals run at any resolution you want.

Six episodes for 1600 MPs... bargain! :)

If that game is anywhere near as polished, funny and enjoyable as Wallace & Gromit then I'll be picking it up straight away.

PC season 1 didn't support widescreen resolutions, which was rather annoying.

Curious. Might be a good prelude to some Monkey Island.

These old style point 'n' click adventure games are a favourite genre of mine so it's great to see them coming to the consoles: Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, Sam & Max, Tales of Monkey Island... I'm a happy bunny! Also we need now is a port of Zak McKraken & the Alien Mindbenders and Grim Fandango and I'll be doing bunny hops! :)

I guess I'll download the demo, if anything to see how they handled the control system.

That's a pretty good price for all six eps.

Got them all on PC, mind - still need to get round to them, playing through the first S&M with the missus (oo-er) as a refresher.

I almost hope they've just left them with a cursor that you move around with the joypad. Horrible as that is, it's at least better than the awful Wallace & Gromit control scheme. I'm not even sure why W&G works as badly as it does. The console versions of stuff like Syberia and Still Life had a similar scheme but that worked fine (and they were originally designed for a cursor, so you'd expect them not to work as well as a game designed from the start to work with a pad).

Gah, I feel the retailed Wii version was a ripoff compared to this price.

Would be better if they released this in episodic fashion as well the full season. I mean, isn't that supposed to be the point? 300 MSP per episode would have worked for me. Maybe even 400 MSP. Having said that, I expect I'll get the lot anyway though.

I've got to say, as an enormous fan of the originals (and pretty much all of Lucasarts point and click adventures) I didn't enjoy this on the PC much. Bit bland, bit empty and not nearly as funny as the original.

I have played the free episode (S1 Ep4?) that was available on Steam.

It was not funny. That remains my only real memory of it. Painfully unfunny in fact.

Will they have fixed the bug in the Wii version that clips off the last second or so of most of the dialogue? Kind of kills the jokes.

Sam & Max S1 was rubbish and the jokes were laboured. Fact.
