PS3 firmware 3.15 now available

Minis emulator now, content next Thurs.

That new PS3 firmware we mentioned yesterday has gone live.

The 3.15 update includes the option to transfer data between two PS3s in order to help people who need to move their stuff to a new console.

It also introduces the option to download and play PSP minis on the PS3 via an emulator.

However, the minis themselves will not be made available until next Thursday, 17th December, when Sony hopes to have "the majority" of existing ones available.

Beyond that, all future PSP minis should work on both PSP and PS3.

From the looks of things, not all minis work on the PS3, hope this gets sorted soon.

Most don't work, but officially the Minis compatibility isn't coming until next week, so I'm sure most of them will be updated then.

    Three articles:

Sony confirms PSP minis for PS3 with FW 3.15.
PSP minis for PS3 available next week with FW 3.15.
PSP minis for PS3 available Next week, FW 3.15 today.

All in the space of a couple of days.
Has anyone played any of the minis? Any to recommend?

Pinball Dreams and Fantasies are still among the best pinball games I've ever played. I always hate how the new ones concentrates on making them realistic, but what made Dreams and Fantasies stand out was that it took advantage of being a computer game.

    @OnlyMe

I used to play them on the Amiga in the good ole days. They were by far the best pinball games i have/had played so if they're pretty much identical to the originals then they are pretty awesome :)

Tried to update and its not there, have they taken it down after accidently putting a poor compatibility version up?

This firmware update fixes the controller/BD remote sync problem for me when turning the PS3 on via the PS button rather than the console's power button.

Odd though how there were threads from PS3 users on this annoying issue in numerous forums including the official PS one post-3.10 firmware update but not one of the main news sites, EG included, made any mention of it. Sony didn't even acknowledge it either but they must have clearly known about it if it is now fixed. :?

Oh well at least it *is* fixed.

They usually don't advertise bugfixes ;)

Pinball Dreams on the ps3, sweet!!!

Nightmare is the single best pinball table created on computer, itttt'ssss midnight, I remember getting 300+ mil on that table.

On a side note I wonder if Sony can get Ikaruga on the ps3......

Just upgraded to 3.15 and read up on the data "transfer" feature.

This is a way of moving game saves and downloaded content to a 2nd PS3, not a way of copying it.

The PS3 you move the data from must be deactivated. The target PS3 get's all content deleted from it prior to the transfer so you lose anything you currently have on it.

So it seems of limited use to most people.

    Oh God not another update!
I dread updates - they always seem to be broken

on the subject of best pinball games I always liked FLIPNIC on PS2

Also not much use if you are trying to transfer data from a broken PS3.

Since I first got a PS3 when the slim came out, the 3 firmware updates that have come out have a 2/3 chance of fucking up one thing or another. Either these updates have no quality control testing before release or the system is so horrendously patched up with the firmware that they don't have the ability to properly test everything before release.

3.00 Fucked up my ability to play Uncharted 1, with it freezing consistently.
3.01 (released 2 weeks later) was only released to fix the uncharted freezing issue.
3.10 Caused my controller to almost randomly loose sync with the PS3. Making me nearly think I had a faulty controller or something. I stopped playing it because I didn't want to have to sit 3 feet from the PS3 with the controller connected to the PS3 via USB cable.

    @BlackANUS - I completely agree with you.

Sony release way too many firmware updates for the PS3 yet I seem to recall them saying they were going to release less with more features some 18 months or so ago. Well, IMO, that has not happened, we still get the usual monthly updates followed by another occasional one that fixes some bug or other, like the ones you mentioned.

If these updates took a few seconds like on the 360 then it wouldn't be so bad but they take at least 5 minutes to download, verify then install and all that time just increases the likelihood of something going wrong during the update. There's a good reason that both Nintendo and Microsoft keep their console firmware updates to an absolute minimum.
