Pre-order BioShock 2 PC, get original free

And save 10 per cent on the asking price.

The Steam Store has begun taking pre-orders for the PC version of BioShock 2.

It's priced at £26.99, a saving of 10 per cent on the full price. For that you also get a copy of the original BioShock, which you can either keep or give to an ignorant friend.

Serious fans may like to bulk buy - Steam is offering four copies of BioShock 2, plus four free copies of the first game, for £80.97.

BioShock 2 will be released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 9th February. You can find all manner of previews, videos and screenshots over on the gamepage.

If you order it through steam does that mean you can't get your GFWL achievement points?
  • bad09 #2 2 years ago

Yeah GFWL works in tandem with Steam, so will work no probs dr_swin.

I just checked it out. Yes, there is a deal for Bioshock 2 preorders in Sweden tool They've lowered it from 50€ to 45€ (appr £40).

    I hate Steam.

I wish my Macbook could run Bioshock ;/
  • TheTingler #5 2 years ago

Direct2Drive has the same offer, although a couple of quid more.

Steam is often more expensive or no cheaper than retail (with the exception of their amazing Christmas sales! - well done Valve)

Its not a bad deal but the majority of people playing #2 will already have #1.

if you preorder, can you get a copy of Bioshock 1 straight away? I wouldn't mind replaying it again before the 2nd one comes out.

Im doing this atm for ME as well :p

    Yes.

Had a quick look on play and bioshock 2 is £27.99, so buying it off steam, not only are you saving an entire pound (I know, control yourselves) but there is no waiting for the postman and a free game.

Might actually get this myself although it is going to be a expensive few weeks for games what with mass effect 2 coming out as well.

Steam order means no box, so I'll pass on this one. But cool offer if you don't have the first.

Edit: And no, ordering Steam does not cut the GfWL part out. I have Fallout 3 on Steam and it works just fine.

"but there is no waiting for the postman"

But you might not be able to unlock the game until a couple of days after release, even though you have pre-loaded it!
  • jamie_fear #13 2 years ago

    @bad09, dr_swin

Bioshock 1 over Steam is missing GFWL and achievements. Don't know if this will be the same for Bioshock 2 though?
  • Rubarack #14 2 years ago

Tempted, never bought the original because of the DRMand just rented the 360 version. I'm about due a replay. Also Yay for Steam actually being cheaper than retail, albeit not by as significant a margin as I'd like. I'll have to look up if they're still playing DRM shenanigans with the sequel though.
  • bad09 #15 2 years ago

    @ jamie_fear

The 1st was not GFWL just GFW, I think that why you didn't get achievements.

Same for Ireland, don't blame Steam, blame the publisher 2K Games. They set the prices.

    Then order off play.com for €36.50. :)

Edit: btw I think there's a mistake on the UK price as it says the price is £39.99 reduced to £26.99 and then "Pre-purchase now save 10% and receive the original BioShock free!"

Someone's going to get into a lot of trouble.

I've only ever heard that happening with MW2 and it was solely due to Activision being a bunch of dicks.
  • Calundann #18 2 years ago

Be aware that even if you buy Bioshock 2 on Steam you will still get secuROM AND GFWL and any DLC that might be released in the future you will have to buy with Microsoft Points.
There will be no dedicated servers and you will have to be online to save your game.
Then there is the whole thing with unsupported countries like the Dirt2 case.
And I just know they will use limited installs and are just waiting with that announcement to get the preorders going.
This is doomed to fail on an epic scale and as awesome as the first game was I will not be buying it.
  • Fallen_Angel #19 2 years ago

@Calundann Have they announced they're using Securom again? After the shitstorm that hit with the first game, I'd be very suprised if they locked it down as much as the first was. GFWL isn't too bad in and of itself and usually theres a way to play without being logged in if you're THAT against it (Can't see why you would mind).
  • Calundann #20 2 years ago

    @Fallen_Angel
Yeah, you have to scroll to the bottom of the Steam store page and look under "Other Requirements"
I don't really mind gfwl as I also have an xbox360. But there are a lot of people who doesn't like it. I had a fair share of problems with my PC version of Fallout 3 but I managed to solve them eventually but I didn't buy any dlc for it due to them being sold via gfwl.

"Other Requirements: Initial installation requires one-time internet connection; Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE; software installations required including Microsoft Visual C++2008 Runtime Libraries, Games for Windows LIVE client, Games for Windows LIVE Client Patch, Sony DADC SecuROM, Microsoft DirectX."

EDIT: lol, the Bioshock 2 steam store page were just updated to say it includes:
    3rd-party DRM: SecuROM™
    15 machine activation limit

EDIT2: The offer wasn't shitty enough so it has now been downgraded to a 5 Install Limit instead
