OutRun Online Arcade gets XBLA date

Just had a Heart Attack.

Microsoft has confirmed, via Xbox Live's Days of Arcade feature, that SEGA's OutRun Online Arcade will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday 15th April.

The game's a downloadable version of the arcade classic OutRun 2 SP, as converted by Sumo Digital, which has done this sort of thing before (on Xbox, PS2 and PSP) to terrific effect.

OutRun Online Arcade is also due for a PS3 release on the PlayStation Network, but SEGA is currently unable to confirm if this version will launch simultaneously with the 360's in April.

Sony's approval processes have seen several PSN games arrive later than their XBLA counterparts, most notoriously with PS3 owners' months-long wait for Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. We'll let you know as soon as we do.

Check out Tom's impressions of OutRun Online Aracde if you haven't already.

  • photoboy #3 3 years ago

I'll definitely be grabbing this once it's out. Now if only Sumo would release GTI Club on XBLAh.
  • siro #4 3 years ago

At 800: Buy. At 1200: Not.
  • jim1975 #5 3 years ago

i'll easy pay up to 1200 points for this, anything under a tenner is an impulse buy for me

  • stepneg #6 3 years ago

A game that's probably worth 1200 points so what's the betting its 1600.
  • twh104 #7 3 years ago

I have Outrun2 and Outrun2006 i play regularily upscaled via HDMI (somehow Outrun 2 seems to look better despite being older) so i doubt i'll bother with this, they both have LIVE anyway.

Boooooooooooooooo this should be out today!!!!! Another bloooooody month!?!?!?!?

So what do we get today then? Hasbro connect 4 crap? Uno 2?

    Bollocks.
  • Dr.Mott #9 3 years ago

    @jim1975

    Unfortunately, 1200 points is £10.20.
  • paulf #10 3 years ago

so gonna buy this - got around 1200 points in my live account should be enough
  • Retroid #11 3 years ago

@twh104: Outrun 2 was an Xbox exclusive, that's why, whilst 2006 C2C was multiplatform.
  • Darren #12 3 years ago

This game apparently only has the 15 Coast 2 Coast tracks and doesn't have the original 15 OutRun 2 ones. So if you have a PC and Steam it's worth picking up OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for a fiver rather than paying (probably) twice as much for the 360 version with half the content. It runs in HD 1680x1050 at 60 fps with 16Q AA on my PC and, while not exactly cutting edge graphically, looks pretty nice all the same.

Well lets hope (and please god!!!!) that the PSN comes out on the same date.

Also Outrun the original arcade game comes with it too, blocks et al!! - pretty pretty please!!!!!!

Oh boy, I've seen a Outrun 2 SP SDX (the 4 players one) in an arcade inside a cinema. With two 60" or so screens. Insane. This just can't compare...

There was also a HOD4 cabinet, so I spent a nice evening, though I also had to sit through a crappy horror movie.
  • bunglebonce #15 3 years ago

Something to pull me away from Eve... I do have C2C on Steam, and often plug the hdmi into the laptop, but sticking this on Live should get some of my friends into it too.
  • Ryze #16 3 years ago

I guess you don't play online, Darren.
  • BBIAJ #17 3 years ago

@twh104: As of December 18th, 2008, the servers are offline.
  • kungfool #18 3 years ago

Both of the original Xbox versions of Outrun (2 and 2006) are forwards (backwards?) compatible on the 360, and Outrun 2 is £5 via Play.com, so this better hadn't be 1200 points!
  • canIdoyabombsforya #19 3 years ago

So we're getting closer to Daytona USA XBLA then? :))
  • canIdoyabombsforya #20 3 years ago

    "and Outrun 2 is £5 via Play.com"

    Used at playtrade
  • neonxaos #21 3 years ago

What now? Yesterday, I read that this was coming out next week...!
  • muscleblade #22 3 years ago

I bet its atleast 1200 points for this. Easily worth it too. I wouldnt be surprised if its 1600 points. The Watchmen game was 1600 wasnt it?
  • Toothball #23 3 years ago

Another month? Guess it'll have to do. Should be a very good day though.
  • Darren #24 3 years ago

@Ryze - No, I don't nor do I want to. OutRun for me is a game where you race against the time-limit to reach the next checkpoint, I don't think that racing against five other human players adds much, if anything, to the game personally the couple of times I've tried it with Coast 2 Coast on the Xbox. There are racing games out there that are much better suited to online racing IMO such as GRID and PGR 4.
  • Monkey_Puncher #25 3 years ago

I'm sure it'll be 1200 points, Virtual On is gonna be the same price.

Amazed to see people moaning about an HD Outrun game costing £10, anyone would think it wasn't worth it.

    Jet Set Radio plz Sega!
  • muscleblade #26 3 years ago

    "At 800: Buy. At 1200: Not. "

Your loss then. No way this will cost 800 points. If it did turn out to be 800 points for this i would be sceptical actually. I mean Death Tank cost 1200.
  • Ryze #27 3 years ago

Your choice man. Personally I'd say it adds racing and competition, not to mention... fun.

You'll be sorted with the PC version, then.
  • RobotRocker #28 3 years ago

Everyone recomending the Xbox BC version should check their heads. Outrun 2 runs with some major slowdown in some areas and Coast 2 Coast has some bad texture pop in issues in upscaled mode, slowdown and abominable load times occasionaly. Also, the live play seems to struggle with wireless headsets for some reason. The PC version is a better bet though since you can upscale it a lot. Online is quite wonky and forget the Leaderboards (which are one of the best parts of the Outrun experience). So there is a lot riding on this version to convince us to play the perfect edition of the Beautiful Journey (1080p and 800pts obv.) . Its looking like its worth a punt so far though.

Hopefully someone from Sumo *coughs0lendcough* will tell us if its based off the SDX version or SP version as well.

    Hello,

Price wise, we've not had final confirmation, but according to the Xbox website here:

    [link url=http://www.xbox.com/zh-SG/games/o/outrunonlinexboxl ivearcade/
    ]http://ww w.xbox.com/zh-SG/games/o/outrun...[/link]

It looks like everyone's wish of 800 points may well happen :)

Codewise the game is based off the SP code, mixed in with some of our existing 2006 code. It's not based on SDX, but... this is the first time the games been available in HD like SDX. The entire games been optimised for widescreen play at any rate. We've also redone a lot of code from scratch, for example the multiplayer code is all new.

If you think of it as a conversion of OutRun2SP but in HD - you're not too far off the mark.

    Excellent stuff, fella.

Now tell your colleagues to start badgering Sega for that Daytona USA conversion. You know it makes sense.

Either that, or get us a decent email / postal address and person that we can start lobbying!

    Cheers!

    800 points? GET IN.

*ahem*. I know its a bit early, but any DLC plans? Otherwise. I love you all so much.

Also, most important factor of this purchase. What music is making it in. Keep Your Heart 1989 better be there. It was the best C2C track.
