Nintendo dates Wii Sports Resort

For Japan and the West.

Nintendo has said in a Japanese press conference that it will launch Wii Sports Resort, which uses its new MotionPlus peripheral, in June in Japan and July in North America and Europe, according to Reuters.

The July date for the West agrees with a recent leak from European retail.

Wii Sports Resort will be bundled with MotionPlus, and is assumed to be the launch title for the enhanced motion-detection device.

However, we know that MotionPlus-enabled EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis will launch on 18th June in the US, which muddies the waters somewhat.

Hopefully we'll hear Nintendo's exact launch plans for the peripheral soon. In the meantime, find more at the Wii Sports Resort gamepage.

At last!! This summer the Wii gets it's second wind for us core gamers with EA's Motion Plus Tennis & Golf, The Conduit (fingers crossed) & of course Wii Sports Resort.

I wish i could say the same for my PS3 which is collecting dust fast after KZ2

It's easy to slag off games that are designed for gamers and non-gamers, but as a 'core' gamer this is probably the only game I'm looking forward to this year so far. If the MotionPlus stuff makes as much difference as they're saying, this and the tennis game could be amazing.

Now release sodding Rainbow Islands to the Virtual Console Arcade and I will be buried with my Wii.

Well I can't say I'm looking forward to Wii Sports Resort much although given the lack of anything else decent on the Wii from Nintendo I guess I should be. If it's anything like Wii Sports, Resort will be a laugh with friends and family but it'll be dull and pointless as a solo game. And that's what I want for my Wii, a decent single player game a la Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3. Trouble is such games are a rarity on the Wii these days.

I would like to see Punch-Out!! and The Conduit to utilize the Wii Motion plus. It seems so silly that they don't support it. It would be a major selling point. Now instead, we have to wait 2+ years for the next Conduit-game, to utilize it.... It seems so silly!

    Yes! Great news.
I have to say that obviously I'm looking more forward to the motionplus peripheral but the actual ''Wii Sports Resort'' game I'm looking forward to as well. Wii Sports was awesome imo and hopefully this game can live up to the first one.
    Really looking forward to it.

with the NES controls option, using motion-plus for punch-out would be unnecessary, because it's replacing the buttons with motions, not going anywhere near 1 to 1.

Also, having tried super punch out on the VC, I don't think it would have the same feel if it was 1 to 1

The Conduit just uses the wiimote to point the target reticule at the screen...at no part in the game does it need to measure the motion of the controller, which is what MotionPlus improves. The Conduit team had access to MotionPlus but couldn't see anywhere in their game it would improve the gameplay at all.

I thought you threw grenades and whacked the enemy out with waggle in the Conduit? Oh, and it would be an awesome feature to be able to hold your gun execution-style by turning your wrist (oh the memories of Perfect Dark :))

And the whole All Seeing Eye thing could probably also be enhanced. Not that I know how it works in the first place, hence the "probably".

I'm sure High Voltage could get a great deal out of Wii Motion plus.

The Motion plus is unlikely to drag me back to the Wii... and sorry Zakrocz Wii Tennis/Golf and Sports Resort are not AAA games whatever you might try to say! The only slightly interesting game is the Conduit.

Thnking of playing Punch Out with a sideways Wiimote has made me care less for this.

Not really as "MotionPlus-enabled" is not the same as "MotionPlus-required". I would take it to mean you can use it when you get it but it's not required.

Execution style? You don't mean gangsta style (side-action) do you? IIRC, you can use your gun gangsta-style in Red Steel if you like, but it's not very ergonomic.

Anyway, MotionPlus gives you much more accurate interpretation of gestures, whacking and throwing grenades can be handled easily with the current Wii remote. With the All Seeing Eye it seems to be just enough to just point at the screen (it's like a fancy flashlight, really).
