Advent Rising devs' new game

It's another sci-fi adventure.

A group of developers who worked on last year's PC and Xbox title Advent Rising have teamed up to form a brand new studio - and they're already hard at work on a brand new game.

The first title from Chair Entertainment will be called Empire, and like AR, it's being developed with the help of acclaimed sci-fi writer Orson Scott Card. But this time, it's the studio who's supplying the story - Card will write a book based on the game.

Apparently the action takes place in a world where "the American Empire has grown too fast, and the fault lines at home are stressed to the breaking point. The war of words between Right and Left has collapsed into a shooting war, though most people just want to be left alone."

Empire will be a first-person shooter and will run on Unreal Engine 3, but there's no word on which platforms it's in development for. The book is due out in November, with the game likely to follow next year.

Nice - just be sure to get a QA department this time.

I gave up on Advent Rising after 6 crashes in the first hour of gameplay.

    He's not that bad.

Wasn't Advent Rising supposed to be a trilogy? I do remember reading an interview with one of the founders of the game's developer before the first one came out, stating his desire to make a trilogy out of it. I seem to remember that he was getting a bit over-excited about the character you play becoming some kind of psychic god by the end of the series, moving mountains with his mind. I guess that their plans may have changed if the first one wasn't well received.

Corvus - No it wasn't well received. Yet if you look on Gamespot; the Xbox and PC versions of Advent Rising have just under 2,000 rating votes from users. Considering some multi-platform titles culminate a total of 1,000 votes when adding all the votes from each version all together - it had to have sold quite a bit...or rented quite a lot.

IIRC it is a trilogy but at least the second game was coming out on a different platform... I may be talking out of my arse there. Can't be bothered to check.

Despite the bugs and the slowdowns I quite enjoyed AR.
It's a shame that we don't get to see the rest of the story.
The game itself takes a bit to get going but once you start using the powers it's nice.
And by the end the story unfolds some nice moments too.
