Monster Hunter PSP details

Information of Freedom.

Capcom has announced that PSP title Monster Hunter Portable will go by the name Monster Hunter Freedom in the US when it's released there in Q1 2006, and elaborated on details of the game's features, including multiplayer modes.

Based on Monster Hunter PS2 and its Japanese-only sequel MH G, Freedom aims to expand the single-player side of the game so it's more suitable for handheld play. To this end you'll have a larger range of tasks to complete with your customised avatar - retrieving dragon eggs, hunting down big creatures, etc. - while scavenging defeated monsters for food and supplies, and accumulating mission rewards for upgrading your arsenal and equipment.

There will be multiplayer modes though, via ad hoc Wi-Fi. Four players can team up in co-op missions, exchange items and guild cards, and there will be a 'treasure hunters' two-player co-op game where players have to collect and deliver treasure somewhere within a time limit.

Capcom Eurosoft currently doesn't have a date for MH Freedom on its release schedule, but we'd expect it sometime in the middle of 2006.

i liked monster hunter.. it was always under-populated and filled only a niche market over here. But it was fun.

hope the PsP retains all the features of the first and more! :)

A real shame that there wont be an infrastructure mode for 'proper' online play though :(

Still, looking forward to this one.

I liked Monster Hunter - although sadly marred a lot by awful load times and a fairly cruddy single-player... it was a bit of fun.

Done properly, I'd love a new Monster Hunter... just I'd like the load times to be cut. Say, by 50%, maybe?

    Imho it's excellent.

If you can hook up with a good bunch of online hunters it's one of the best online co-op games there is, imho. Single player is really a training ground for online, and it helps build you up for battle. Online wins you stuff that helps you offline, and vice versa..an acquired taste offline, but personally I loved it. It's more fun the more tooled up you've become from playing online.

Some of the best graphics on PS2. The character and critter design is brilliant. A really refreshing sense of humour runs through the whole thing, and some of the levels really make you feel at one with nature, with their ambient sound affects and graphics etc.

The PSP version will give us the bits we missed in Mhunter G, plus a more developed singleplayer, so as far as I'm concerned, it's bound to be Heaven on a handheld :)

    Online, it's a blast.

As I said, it's just the not-so-great single player in comparison, and the AWFUL load times (makes Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 look like streaming IMO) that really hurt it quite badly. Load times are the unforgivable bit. Really, truly awful.

It's got a truckload of potential if the big C can hone it in the right manner, and tweak it up. I hope they do it for this version. I really do...

The camera is quite irksome as well, until u get used to it at least, but the cooking and the pig tickling mini games (the pig one I’ve only seen online) more than make up for it! ^^

I only wish it was released on Xbox, as not many ppl seem to use sony's online service... I also wished that each district of the online mode allowed more than 8 players... as the 'city' is more than big enough to support triple that.

still i love this game (its the reason for me owning a Ps2 network adapter) and any news on a PsP version is excellent :)

The creatures/dinos in game though were always nothing short of stunning. It was a lovely game. But I get hung up on those load times because Capcom cut down load times so much for games like RE4, so the inexcusably long load times in Monster Hunter were just nothing short of annoying.

Still, hopefully the future of this game will be brighter... and faster... and better...
