Ridge Racer 7 at PS3 launch

In Japan anyway. Genji too.

Phew. It's all fine. The PlayStation 3 will be a roaring success after all.

That's because according to IGN, which has been rifling through the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly, Ridge Racer 7 will be among the games that appear alongside the console at its Japanese launch on 11th November.

Also on the list is everyone's favourite historical simulation of giant enemy crabs, Genji 2, while there's also something called SEGA Golf Club, Namco Bandai's Gundam: Target in Sight, and Konami's Mahjong Fight Club.

Presumably the first rule of Mahjong Fight Club is that you don't talk about it, which shouldn't be a problem since we don't cover Mahjong games. Although IGN notes that KOEI's Mahjong Taikai is listed as "November" as well, with Gran Turismo HD down as December.

Presumably there'll be other launch titles too. Tune in (very) late tonight for Ken Kutaragi's keynote address, when we might hear about some of them.

I think one of the writers on this site has something of an obsession with RR.

I don't remember who, but I'm sure he'she's pretty chuffed.

I'm not a writer for EG, but I'm obsessed with RR. And I have an obsession with GT. But I think £450 for the console, £100 for the two games, and then a further £400 for the cars in GT4, for which I've already unlocked most of the cars, is enough even to put me off!

I love the Ridge Racer games, even enjoyed numero 6 on the 360 despite it's simplistic looks and gameplay and am even looking forward to the 7th instalment on the PS3. But it's not a game that you buy a console for, is it? I'll pick it up at some point after I've bought my PS3 but it's not high on my must-have list really.

I think it's Tom, and I'm in the same boat (metaphorically) as him.

    Bless you Tom. Bless you.

    1am for us English dudes.

I've always seen Ridge Racer as too arcadey and simplistic for my tastes, but I know its popular in Japan.

"But it's not a game that you buy a console for, is it?"

What else was there to play on the PS1 for the first 3 months?!

However, all the sequels have somewhat dulled my love for the game. I own RR6 and have played it twice :(

It's become a tradition now. Has there ever been a Sony console launch without Ridge Racer as a launch title?

So they have dropped the real time weapon change then. Typical Sony dropping features close to launch ;)

Hopefully they'll replace it with something better. Perhaps it'll have two different movement speeds - Walking and Running. Crazy, I know, but we can always hope. ;)
