Radiata Stories gets US release

Squenix undecided on Europe.

Square Enix has announced that PS2 RPG Radiata Stories will launch in the US on September 6th, but the publisher still can't make its mind up on a European release.

"We have no plans to release the game in Europe at the moment," a representative told Eurogamer.

However, she added, "It's being considered."

Radiata Stories is being developed by tri-Ace Inc., the people who brought us Valkyrie Profile and the Star Ocean series, and promises to "take gamers on a non-linear adventure through a fully interactive world."

"Gamers will be drawn into the game for both the beautiful, interactive environment as well as the melancholic story," said Squenix president Ichiro Otobe.

"I think gamers will really enjoy the great balance to the serious story that is brought on by the humour that is sprinkled throughout the game."

It all takes place in the kingdom of Radiata, a mystical world where humans and fairies are at war. You get to choose which side to fight for, which in turn decides which of the game's 175 characters join you on your quest. We're promised simple, intuitive controls and the ability to plan real-time battles strategically by adjusting your party's formation.

There are plenty of different costumes, weapons and objects to collect, and you can expect cameo appearances from items seen in previous tri-Ace titles. And, rather intriguingly, you can "Kick chairs, trees, rocks, monsters, townsfolk, chickens etc. to earn items or engage in battle." The first RPG to make kicking chickens an integral part of the gameplay? Could be interesting...

It's a good thing I'm about to chip my PS2. Sick of this "Europe, you say? Hmmmm.... maybe. Maybe." attitude. Fucks me right off I can tell you.

    WTF are Squenix Europe doing?

It's July. So far this year they've released these games for home systems:
    ...
    ...
    nothing.

Let's look at their release schedule and see what's up for release for the rest of the year, shall we? Here we go:
    ...
    ...
    nothing.

So for over six months they haven't released a damn thing. For the forseeable future they're also planning on not releasing a damn thing. Can someone please tell me what the point of Squenix Europe even existing is?

Wee! Look at them smelly Europeans get the gaming shaft once again!
.. Is what I'd say if I lived in NTSC-land.

    Oh well.
  • valli #9 7 years ago

I have this nice 50€ bill here for "Front Mission 4", Squenix. Oh, you don't want it? Okay, I'll just continue playing the dodgy NTSC copy then.

Actually, Square Enix Mobile Europe (part of Square Enix Mobile and Square Enix Europe) released several mobile phone titles earlier in the year, including ports of FF1 and FF2. So they're up to something... the value of what they're up to is just in question.

That said, it's not like SQEXJ has their act together either. Eh, FFXII?

    /sighs

There's about as much chance as a fart in fairy land of this being released over here, and it looks brilliant (and gorgeous).
I need to replace my PS2 anyway, I'm fucking chipping, or I'm fucking importing, I'm sick of this shite. Seriously sick and tired.

"Europa? Yeah, we might consider launching our games there. Ofcourse it hasn't been colonized yet so there's no plans at this time. But space probes have provided interesting footage, there might be market there as soon the first colonies apear.

What? Continent on the planet Earth you say? Hahaha, yeah right, hey Joe come over here, you gotta hear this guy, he's funny!"

Isn't FFXII due for releace in November?
  • sopaman #16 7 years ago

Being considered? I remember Square-Enix mentioned they had the intention of becoming the no. 1 game developer in the world, hell yeah... that's the way to go!

Their games are completely overestimated. FFX and especially FFX-2 were crap. Apart from those we didn't get much more. All of them came in annoying super-slow 50 hz pal versions and were released years after their jap release dates, and in most cases not even translated into other languages (and dubbing?, what's that?) so the "sorry, it took so long to release it because we were translating it" is not a valid excuse anymore. "We were figuring out how to make the pal version crappier" would sound much more like the truth to me.

The bottom line is fuck off Squenix, you suck.

Btw, If I ever want to play any of your games, I'm just downloading it. You don't even deserve that I take the time to order it from the States (which would be actually quite cheaper than buying it here, anyway).

WTF? So how come there's nothing on the Square Enix Mobile Europe website about this then?

Anyway, if anyone wants to see the trailer for Radiata Stories, it's here.

The release date's not even on Squenix's own site, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

IGN is listing the Japanese release as June 30th and the US release as "Quarter 2 2006". Squenix's PAL conversions are legendary in length, so I'd surmise Q3 2006 would be 'the earliest possibility' for us. Looking at that I'm starting to wonder if it'll be Christmas 2006...

Regardless, you won't see it in Europe this year. Not a chance.
  • Galvanizer #24 7 years ago

At least we'll be getting Advent Children this year! :-)
  • Meff #25 7 years ago

"At least we'll be getting Advent Children this year!"

Will we? Now that the NA version has been delayed, that will most likely influence the European release date, and push it around 4-5 months further back at least.
