I was wondering if Sega changed their mind about releasing this !

I'm leaning to not buying this atm. yes it's only £20, and these games probably sold for that individually in Japan, but theres no "killer app". And people will have mixed views about the rejigging of the games

btw the Golden axe "remake" sucks

The PSP really is proving to be a bit crap for anyone who wants to play a decent game on it.

Oh, and dosen't like racing games!
  • Blerk #3 7 years ago

This is for PS2 mattigan, not PSP. Not that that makes it any better, but there you go. :-)
  • sephy #4 7 years ago

    but this is for ps2

    so whats your point?

Out run is one of the games which got me so interested in games as a young'un.And when the arcade conversions started appearing on the 8-bits, i was so excited. What an anti-climax.. I also understand that these remakes are disappointing too. It seems the only decent way to play these classics is via mame or other emulators..

FFS sake Sega, release a Model 2, or Model 3 compilation pack. I'd kill for an arcade perfect Sega Rally 1.
  • abigsmurf #7 7 years ago

the Saturn Sega Rally 1 was pretty stonking...

But anyway, can we get confirmation of the dragon force remake?
  • Spiral #8 7 years ago

Yeah, screw this, we want the Sega Ages series. (And Panzer Dragoon Saga as well please sir thank you very much)
  • smelliot #9 7 years ago

    Bah, no Gunstar Heroes.
  • sephy #10 7 years ago

Spiral, this IS the Sega Ages series (or at least some of them)

Sega of America was very strict about what they would put in a wstern pack because at the end of the day the Sega Ages series is mostly graphical updates of old games, and some of them were pretty bad.

but from what I understand Sega Japan is now doing the Sega Ages series in-house rather then shipping the work out and is taking it more seriously, so expect more of the Sega Ages range next year in compilation form.

be thankful they dont want £20 per game...

    'Bah, no Gunstar Heroes. '

Well according to 1up (htt p://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3141869&did=1) Gunstar Heros will be included in the Sega Ages compendium (that sephy mentions). This will also contain Dynamite Heady (another great treasure game!!)

I hope this is true, as I seriously believe Gunstar Heroes is the best game I've ever played..........................

So my question is; Is this 'Sega Ages' series different to the 'SEGA Classics Collection' that EG mention??!!

Currently, Sega Ages is a line up of individual games which are graphical updates of the originals.

That compendium you mention as far as I know is a specific Treasure studios compilation rather then a generic sega compilation.

The Sega classics compilation is just a selection of the individual Sega Ages titles, shoved on one disc rather then seperately in order for us westerners to actually want to buy the games (and because Sega aren't rip off merchants like Nintendo are....).

    Play asia Sega Ages list

'Currently, Sega Ages is a line up of individual games which are graphical updates of the originals. '

Hmmm, so I wonder what compilation 1up.com are trying to get at then? I hope it's as you say sephy, a 'Treasure studios compilation'.

If so, then that would be ace as Treasure developed games are some of the greatest ever created. Doubt they'd release it over here though, as treasure games are unjustly underrated here in europe...............

From what I gather the Treasure comilation is:

    Gunstar heroes
    Dynamite Heady
    Alien Soldier

btw IGn has an article on what sega is doing with Sega Ages as a whole and why the previous releases werent that good in all fairness

    You WHAT?!

    WHERE?!
  • deaner #17 7 years ago

    space ace: "golden axe !!!"

There's not much else needs saying.
  • Xerx3s #18 7 years ago

GA! wait, i already have that on almost every system possible. err, meh?
  • Spiral #19 7 years ago

Spiral, this IS the Sega Ages series (or at least some of them)

Yeah? Good news then. I only heard about Ages pretty far into it from Dragon Force and a few others and assumed they were all Saturn games. These are all older and bundled together so I assumed it was a seperate collection.
  • Blerk #20 7 years ago

There's not much else needs saying.

Aside from "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE THEY DONE THEY'VE COMPLETELY RUINED IT!".
  • sephy #21 7 years ago

    indeed

Its familiar, but not in a rose tinted way. More of a "i'm sure the game wasnt this bad 14years ago" way

  • #22 7 years ago

No game that makes you wanna run out and buy it though is there.
  • sephy #23 7 years ago

  • Lutz #24 7 years ago

    Dragon Force would do it...

    /sulks a bit more

""""This is for PS2 mattigan, not PSP. Not that that makes it any better, but there you go""""

X360 spoilers, Hell yeah. PS 2 for 99 bucks, hell yeah. Classic sega games, hell yeah.

    mattigan can't read, hell yeah.

blerk, anger and fustration show a true side of inferior complex. We all know how useless the ipod and xbox is don't we.

  • tengu #26 7 years ago

Someone wake me up when both Sega and Captain Nippon are dead.
  • smelly #27 7 years ago

there's some gems in there.. but it's still a tad expensive really isnt it?

especially when you can get them for fr...
  • sephy #28 7 years ago

£20, likely to be £15 on play?

Naturally your mileage will vary depending on what interests you, but it seems a fairly good value pack to me if you like what you see. Remember these games are £15-20 EACH in japan
  • yagisencho #29 7 years ago

I have the US release of this compilation. The better-done remakes are fun but not fantastic. The poorly-done remakes are instantly forgettable.

If you're a Sega fanatic (like myself), it's worth picking up at the budget price. I do wish they'd included the original versions alongside the remakes though.

I'm interested in this one just for the chance to play Virtua Racing again.

I spent God only knows how much on this in the arcades whenever I went away on holiday, and even found enjoyment in the MegaDrive version.

I'm curious though, the shots shown of VR, are they only of the MD version (they look it to me), or of the arcade remake? 'Cos if so, then I'm sure the arcade game looked a Hell of a lot better than that!

What are you blathering on about, you loon?
  • yagisencho #33 7 years ago

Ben, I'm pretty sure it's an arcade port. It's much better-looking than the Saturn edition of Virtua Racing. It screams for a steering wheel though - wouldn't bother with a gamepad.
