Test Drive Unlimited for PC

X360 exclusive no more.

Atari's confirmed that Eden Studios' forthcoming Xbox 360 racer Test Drive Unlimited will also be released on PC, as was hinted back at the publisher's Go Play event in October when we took a look at it.

Atari aims to release both versions during fiscal 2007 - so, between this April and March 2007 - although there are no further details on any distinguishing features or owt.

TDU's looking pretty good, actually, despite any reservations we might have had about the Test Drive name - Eden's built a racing environment out of Honolulu, and the idea is that you'll be able to race against real people that you meet while zooming around connected to Xbox Live.

The sense of speed's pretty impressive, and Eden's gone to Gotham-esque levels of car detail and perhaps even further - you can wind down the windows here to improve the sound of Hawaii rushing past your face. Brill.

We'll let you know more when we get to play it again. In the meantime, check out our Go Play impressions.

PC and 360 are both MS territory and MS wants games on both platforms. I think it's great the PC is getting a lot of new games and in some cases I will pick teh 360 version (when the play-from-couch factor is high) and in some cases the PC version (usually RTS stuff ;)

Explain why this matters, at all?

Ah, the good old Test Drive played in CGA and the great TDII in EGA Glory :) Great years from Accolade. Since TDIII (ugly) the series name went down the toilet. Test Drive 6 was sooooo bad. Anyway, I'll give it a try... Greetings from Lisbon

Xbox titles are "exclusive" until they figure out the sales figures, one of the biggest problems that MS face is that with western developers that tradictionaly been PC developers they have no problem in putting the game on the PC if it does not sales truckloads and ... it does not.

Also it does not help when thenselves port the game for PC to raise sales (even if in Halo 2 case, too little and far too late).

MS does not want games in both system since it leads to a internal system war with people with PC waiting for the PC version that will come down the line ... the reason they do is likely in order to recover from losses.

When the PS2 have tons of exclusives and even the CG have several its hard to want a Xbox since the games will likely come for PC or PS2.

So whats XNA and Vistas "console" mode (no background services running, running the game from the DVD) all about then?
  • HarryB #13 6 years ago

Dizzy... you got me all wrong
i was saying xbox exclusives are only exclusives in the console market... pc doesn't count.. so if it comes out on pc.. the box will still say "only on xbox" or whatever.

my ARGH was to EG... because xboz exclusive have pc versions come out a lot... as in, not important.. it's still exclusive

    moto gp, halo, rallisport etc

No matter how you spin it, you can't call this game X360 exclusive. Not a strike against X360 or anything, but at least Halo can be called XBox exclusive, since PC version comes out years later.

Plus, you don't know anything about the rest of upcoming X360 titles being 'exclusives' until the PS3 and Revo come out. What is worrisome is that PS3 and Revo can safely boast of many exclusive titles, something that is likely to be a major driver of console sales. MS meanwhile can't seem to decide whether they are pushing Vista or X360 - but they will at least get decent volume if they pursue this strategy (or lack thereof).
