New Yakuza game confirmed
Yes, another one.
There's yet another Yakuza game in the works, series director Toshihiro Nagoshi has confirmed.
According to Japanese mag Famitsu (translated by Andriasang), the new game has been in development alongside PSP title Black Panther Yakuza Chapter, and will be released on the PS3.
It looks like the fifth main Yakuza game, although Nagoshi refused to officially name it.
He did, apparently, promise it'll "do honour" to the Yakuza name, which is apt, really.
All we know is that we'll get a closer look at popular Yakuza character Majima Goro, who will be playable. Nagoshi also mentioned the word "destruction", which sounds like fun.
"We want to show evidence of 'there are still these possibilities for the Yakuza series'," said Nagoshi. "We won't be throwing out the past methods of enjoyment, but we will be taking a scalpel to the fundamentals of the game systems."
This game may or may not be the Yakuza title teased at a Japanese Yakuza 4 event that took place earlier this year.
Yakuza 3 only arrived on these shores in March. Yakuza 4 will be released for PS3 here in spring 2011. Eurogamer reviewed the openworld crime game on import in April.
More details are expected at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

The more Yakuza the better but i hope they don't make too many gameplay changes and that it gets a swift and complete localisation.

If you had done your research, that title - Project K - is the PSP game, Black Panther. Andriasang should have further details.

I thought it was the spiritual successor to shenmue, but it's not got half the class or depth as that

Also, I don't think there's anything dated about the Yakuza games at all. Yakuza 3 was beautiful looking! I like the fighting in it as well. It's simple, satisfying and utterly hilarious at times. None of the ridiculous, useless combos etc. of God of War and all that; none of the kind of thinking that crept into (and ruined) Prince of Persia after Sands of Time.

I definitely prefer the Yakuza series.

Also, I'm still waiting for Yakuza Kenzan (you know, the only one in the series that actually feels and looks different, since it takes place in feudal Japan) to come out in the West...
And when I say I'm waiting, I really mean that I've already realized that we'll never get it (I mean, it's obvious that Sega simply decided to skip it) and I'm very pissed off about that...
