New Yakuza game confirmed

Yes, another one.

There's yet another Yakuza game in the works, series director Toshihiro Nagoshi has confirmed.

According to Japanese mag Famitsu (translated by Andriasang), the new game has been in development alongside PSP title Black Panther Yakuza Chapter, and will be released on the PS3.

It looks like the fifth main Yakuza game, although Nagoshi refused to officially name it.

He did, apparently, promise it'll "do honour" to the Yakuza name, which is apt, really.

All we know is that we'll get a closer look at popular Yakuza character Majima Goro, who will be playable. Nagoshi also mentioned the word "destruction", which sounds like fun.

"We want to show evidence of 'there are still these possibilities for the Yakuza series'," said Nagoshi. "We won't be throwing out the past methods of enjoyment, but we will be taking a scalpel to the fundamentals of the game systems."

This game may or may not be the Yakuza title teased at a Japanese Yakuza 4 event that took place earlier this year.

Yakuza 3 only arrived on these shores in March. Yakuza 4 will be released for PS3 here in spring 2011. Eurogamer reviewed the openworld crime game on import in April.

More details are expected at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

Getting physically excited about all this Yakuza. The future is looking good. All we have to do now is avoid nuclear holocaust and we're all set.

    Sweet!
The more Yakuza the better but i hope they don't make too many gameplay changes and that it gets a swift and complete localisation.

I hope Uncle Kaz makes an appearance in it. Uncle Kaz and his fists of justice.

Great! Love Yakuza. I think the gameplay could use a bit of freshening up though, it hasn't really evolved much beyond minor tweaks. Most of the work seems to go into the mini-games, which admittedly are pretty cool.

I want a full game of just sorting out children's problems.

I look forward to playing this in 2018.

If you had done your research, that title - Project K - is the PSP game, Black Panther. Andriasang should have further details.

no idea why people fuss over this. Played the demo of the last one the other night - it's terrible. Poor, almost last gen, visuals. Dated text "speak". Limited button bashing. Just boring.

I thought it was the spiritual successor to shenmue, but it's not got half the class or depth as that

then thats a problem they need to correct with the 4th one.. as the demo left me with no desire to play the full game

Man, folk are always gabbing on about how much they don't like text in games. I don't know, that just doesn't cut it with me. Is it only me that doesn't mind reading dialogue? Is it only me that sometimes (whisper it) secretly prefers it?

Also, I don't think there's anything dated about the Yakuza games at all. Yakuza 3 was beautiful looking! I like the fighting in it as well. It's simple, satisfying and utterly hilarious at times. None of the ridiculous, useless combos etc. of God of War and all that; none of the kind of thinking that crept into (and ruined) Prince of Persia after Sands of Time.

I wish I liked Yahuza as much as all of the EG readers seem to be each time but I cant sdtop seeing it as a cheap Shen Mue which isnt even close to it :S Why? I dont get whats that everyone likes about it and I actually find this game not any good. Might that be the younger me inside of me begging for a rerelease of Shen Mue and i subconsiously dispise Yahuza? lol

Shenmue was a bit of a borefest in my opinion.
I definitely prefer the Yakuza series.

I love Yakuza, but they're really making too much of them in such a short time.
Also, I'm still waiting for Yakuza Kenzan (you know, the only one in the series that actually feels and looks different, since it takes place in feudal Japan) to come out in the West...
And when I say I'm waiting, I really mean that I've already realized that we'll never get it (I mean, it's obvious that Sega simply decided to skip it) and I'm very pissed off about that...
