Modern Warfare 2-themed 360 unveiled

It's got a big fat 250GB hard drive.

Microsoft has announced plans to launch a new Xbox 360 with a 250GB hard drive - more storage space than any previous iteration of the console.

The Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console, as it's fully titled, features "an exclusive warzone design inspired by the epic thriller". You also get two wireless controllers, a headset and a copy of the game.

The bundle is being launched alongside Modern Warfare 2 on 10th November and will only be available at GAME and Gamestation. "It's the highest compliment to the team and our fans to have a special themed Xbox 360 console," said Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella. "The precision and detail that’s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of Modern Warfare 2."

So far only a US price has been announced for the bundle - $399, equivalent to around 240 quid or €270.

    Sounds awful.

    Edit: Actually, just the saw the photos and it looks ok. I was expecting gaudy artwork plastered all over it.

    If its a Game/station exclusive, i reckon £300 ish for this.

    "The precision and detail that?s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of Modern Warfare 2."

    Its a cammo paintjob with a few words splashed on. I love marketing guys. The extra controller helps though, as does the hdd.

    Things can always be cheaper, but the game alone and an elite is more expensive isnt it? Unless game do their own package, which would probably dent sales of this one.

    Wonder if it will come to everywhere in Europe. The rumour was that there was going to be the same bundle but with Forza 3 instead, which seems a less popular choice than MW2, but hopefully not with a 'specially painted' console then.

    what is the point of saying the price in euro and sterling, they only take the exchange rate into account when there not steeling a much from us and need an increase

    Shouldn't be called the "Xbox 360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console"? I get confused.
  • MiniAmin #13 2 years ago

    Hmmm i'm undecided. The success of this bundle will depend on it's price. Yeah I know that's a trite thing to say and that it's applicable to any hardware package. However this *is* Activision and this console will cost at least 300. The Resident Evil Bundle was 400 and that had a 120 GB HDD. This'll be interesting.
  • Shadders #14 2 years ago

    As a member of the Anti Activision Alliance I am duty bound to say this looks crap, and is a shameless excercise in consumer exploitation.

    ...but that actually looks damn sexy.

    Must... resist... preorder..
  • MeBrains #15 2 years ago

    $399?! sounds like the previous PS3 price?! 16 comments and none have remarked so - I thought asking $399 for a console was an outrage... I don't understand some guys.

    @MrBrains.

    Its L.E. There are cheaper sku's if you feel this is too expensive.

    @Snakehips76

    Transfering from 20GB to 120GB was painfully slow. Transferring 120GB to 250GB is something to be done while you're off on holidays.

    @dr_faulk - Aye, very good point... it took me around an hour to transfer the contents of my almost full 20 GB HDD to my then new 120 GB one so transferring my current HDD's 80 GB of data would take four times as long. Ouch! Good job I don't want a 250 GB HDD, knowing Microsoft's outrageous pricing for peripherals it would cost well over £100 at a guess, possibly more than £150 unless they revise their unfair prices.
  • Calgon #21 2 years ago

    What are you on about MeBrains? £399 WAS a bit expensive, thats £ and not $.... I dont think anyone claimed the PS3 price before the price drop was outrageous, it just wasn't as competative as it could have been(and it was frozen there for a long time too IIRC despite reductions in manufacturing costs). £299 is about what's expected at launch for a new console. Im not sure what price the PS3 launched at in the U.S(I think the 20GB went for $499 and the 60GB for $599) but this is Eurogamer isn't it?

    We don't even have a price or any details about this bundle in the UK or Europe yet, but I think for a new *limited edition*(which is often used as an excuse to charge more in whatever market a product's in) bundle with over twice the hard drive space, anything under 300 would be ok( they might even opt for around £250 for all we know).

    I mean come on, if you have to act like a butthurt PS3 fanboy, atleast get your shit straight. ;)
  • Tomo #22 2 years ago

    I still have 10 GB on my 20GB HDD. I don't really get the need for such amounts of space on an Xbox. Don't you lot delete your demos after you've played them or something?!
  • Zomoniac #23 2 years ago

    The design with that big 2 on the front looks like it'll look really shit if the console is horizontal (which I'm pretty sure is how most people actually have them).
  • muscleblade #24 2 years ago

    @Tomo

    I install the games i currently play to get a quiet 360 and to cut loading times. I have a 120HDD but havent got more than 13gig free space right now. I also buy a lot of dlc for my games so those take up a lot of space too.
  • mcmonkeyplc #25 2 years ago

    Wait a second...does this make the game cheaper than £40?
  • Darren #26 2 years ago

    @Tomo - Ripped music CDs and game installs plus DLC for many games uses up a fair chuck of my 120 GB HDD and I only have a couple of demos on there (soon to be deleted, I don't keep them). I don't know how anyone can manage with a 20 GB HDD these days, I think my save games alone total 12 GB, thanks to Oblivion and Fallout 3!
  • septimus #27 2 years ago

    Nice... if I didn't already have a 360. Wonder what the standalone 250GB HDD will cost? £250 inc the 200 quid MS tax.

    Though friends lists leads me to get MW2 on PS3.
  • Negotiator #28 2 years ago

    MSoft have done it again, just when the PS3 was on the come back, MSoft pull this masterstroke out of their huge money filled ass. Also this will cost £299, trust me.
  • Negotiator #29 2 years ago

    Just to add, I will be getting one of these, oh yes.
  • Peew971 #30 2 years ago

    @ Tomo
    You obviously don't buy too much DLC, those alone will eat up a 20GB HDD.
  • trooperdx3117 #31 2 years ago

    "The precision and detail that’s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of Modern Warfare 2."
    God how much was he paid to say that.
  • Britesparc Verified Creative, ITV #32 2 years ago

    I think this is actually a really good bundle, and the console isn't too shabby, aesthetically speaking. More excited about the 250gb HD though - hopefully they'll be releasing this separately, too, and hopefully it'll knock the price of the 120gb down.
  • WinterSnowblind #33 2 years ago

    £300 is definitely more likely, otherwise we're basically getting MW2 for free.

    But it's still a good price, if you're looking to get a 360. I'm hoping they start selling the HDD's seperatly, and for a reasonable price. But I'm probably out of luck there.

    priced $399 / £299. does not include a headset and the HD is smaller, but does have wireless, and BR of course.

    @calgon: did laugh with your "butthurt PS3 fanboy" thing. :) btw: and we are talking about an american bundle here. I agree that £399 for a bare console is steep.

    I'd just like the larger hard drive please, not the game nor a second X360, my first elite is still going strong. If I could squeeze more music onto the xbox and lose the need to stream from the laptop (saving some leccy bill) then I'd be a happy bunny.
  • GamerG #36 2 years ago

    I agree with you Luke, MS have practically admitted a console redesign next year, with any luck it will be smaller and quieter
  • JahB #37 2 years ago

    @darren

    you're storing music on the xbox HD? that seems a bit odd, given the streaming alternatives. you might wanna check out TVersity
  • Calgon #38 2 years ago

    MeBrains yes its about the American bundle but the outrage comment was a bit much... I just got the feeling the launch price reaction was still a sore point for you because it didn't really fit with this article at all.

    Reports that the Included copy of Modern Warfare 2 is free if you sell you soul to Santa and name your first born BobbyKotickRules regardless of sex, are at this time unconfirmed...

    A bit of jumping on the MW bandwagon (not that you can blame them), but seriously this isnt that amazing, its just a console with a skin....some people obviously love MW too much :)
  • local_celebrity #41 2 years ago

    Sounds like the perfect gift for kids planning to blow up their own school. Are they going to chuck in the rapey nightvision goggles as well?
  • jaluuk #42 2 years ago

    Want. I'd replace my old Pro for this, definitely.
  • Bonders99 #43 2 years ago

    Would it be because they want Bobby Kotick to get to number 1 ?

  • NotSoSlim #44 2 years ago

    Just a thought when MW3 comes out would this console look a bit weird?

    * i am bored lol*
  • xavier_dragoon #45 2 years ago

    Its gonna be overpriced but why screw about HDD size? If you have the (stupidly-overpriced-not-way-was-I-buying-one-brand-new) 120Gb drive you have space for around a dozen GOD games right there? Even with disc-installs how many games do you/the average person play at once? Just delete some shit every once in a while!

    P.S. Getting the full XBox Experience is stupidly overpriced, even compared to launch PS3's!
  • Muppet64 #46 2 years ago

    Well, once it's out in the wild someone will almost certainly clone off its firmware. Then we'll be able to fit cheap 250 gig drives into 20gig cases at a fraction of the cost.

    @Xavier_Dragoon: Some of us do have quite a few games installed, currently uncompleted & Old Favourites, so 250 Gig just gives a bit more room to breath is all.
  • codnation #47 2 years ago

    Is it possible to trade your 60gb xbox 360 in to game/gamestation in the UK for it... and maybe pay the extra?

    To promote Modern Warfare 3, Activision will be holding a two day event called Call of Duty: Experience! The official Call of Duty: MW3 site was launched on May 18. It currently has an interactive map that was seen in the MW3 teaser trailers. I'm sure we will see the perks soon.
