Modern Warfare 2 delayed on PC?

Rumours suggest two-week hold-up.

UK site Electronic Theatre has claimed that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been delayed by two weeks.

Electronic Theatre says it has seen a release schedule which has the PC version of the blockbuster shooter releasing on November 24th, two weeks after the console versions on November 10th. Activision has yet to confirm or deny the delay.

Possible reasons put forward for the hold-up include fears over piracy - often cited as the reason for the late release of PC versions of multi-platform games - or a manufacturing problem.

We'll bring you confirmation as soon as we can.

^ And piracy is so heatlhy for the industry, bloody dudes who buy all their games allways picking on good litle pirates.

"because piracy on the other consoles is quite widespread"

On the other console, you mean? :)
  • Caimbeul #8 2 years ago

If piracy is used as an excuse it is a poor one. Delaying releases at the cinema only increases piracy. I will wait for the better version.

Maybe the delay is implement DX11?...although that is hopeful.

Dont you have to get the machine chipped or something though (i honestly dont know these days) too much hassle if you ask me.

what's up with this practice of last minute pc delaying, I'm looking at you borderlands, arkham asylum and MW2

I guess it's working on the logic that the pc version gets leaked a week early, so release that 2 weeks later than the console version also pls buy the more expensive console version kthx

another series that started on the pc, and now it gives the middle finger to the pc. it's ok. when console gamers become bored of infinite shooters they'll put it out on the pc at the same time again. only thing is that pc gamers are already bored of shooters after 1.5 decade of playing them

I think you do, and need to burn the games in a certain way or something, and also it must be a certain DVD drive, and then get banned sooner or later, so I don't think one can compare its being as widespread as in PC world.

    @miiiguel

No, but it's a bloated issue. Furthermore, a very small (and thus insignificant from a commercial standpoint) percentage of pirates are affected by delays of PC games in that they actually buy them on the console of their choice. Remember Alone in the Dark? That game was allegedly impossible to crack, yet a great deal of pirates waited for the game to appear on torrents. Eventually, it did.

You don't stop pirates by delaying their games, and it's a widely known fact.
  • miiiguel #14 2 years ago

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against fellow PC gamers, we're brothers :) I just dislike them pirates, that's all.
  • Shadders #15 2 years ago

    Disgracefrul!

    Pre-order cancelled.
  • ChthonicEcho #16 2 years ago

    @miiiguel

Their influence is hardly noticeable. They damage companies to a certain point, but not to a harmful degree when it comes to ones such as Activision and Infinity Ward. It's independent developers that pirates hurt the most. However, I'll have you know that pirates actually feel for indie developers and support them (the fact that indie games are cheap helps). Not all of them do, of course, but most of them.

Edit: Gah, I can't believe I'm debating piracy. I know everyone disagrees with my view. Bracing for self-inflicted shitstorm.

This is standard practice for multi-format titles now, no? I can't remember the last time the PC release got a simultaneous release.

The annoying thing is they always leave it until the last moment to announce the staggered release.
  • Darren #18 2 years ago

Just my luck... I decide I might buy Call of Duty: MW2 on the PC instead of the 360 now I have a system capable of running it well only to find out it may be delayed because of the usual excuse, i.e. piracy.

Sucks... but at least it's only two weeks and the PC version is the cheapest version by far and will very likely be the best version anyway. It's worth waiting IMO. With the obscene price of the console versions there's no way I'm even remotely tempted by those anyway.

As a PC gamer though, these delayed multiformat games are worrying. How long will it be before publishers/developers decide not to even bother releasing games on that platform?

sounds like a bollox excuse. I dont bother with Pc games anymore but it still annoys me when they have silly delay's . are they trying to make sure it sells the REALLY EXPENSIVE console version to the max . a 2 week delay for any game smacks more of marketing .they must be all boxed up and ready to go right now . a 2 month + delay is understandable but not 2 weeks.

would be tempted by a PC version of this seeing as usually PC versions go for cheaper.
shame my friends list on xbox live are the ones I actually want to play this with :/
that and I'll not be forking out for it until it hits a reasonable price point...
which i'll not hold my breath for :/
  • Razer #23 2 years ago

The cynic in me says it is so they get more people to pay the higher console prices for a couple of weeks. The piracy argument is , frankly, bollocks.

Plus, the console pirates can still play it online, whereas pc versions will need a valid key to play on official servers (or play on private servers which tend to suck anyway)
  • schnide #24 2 years ago

At first I thought this might be financially motivated.

But then I remembered what a cunt Bobby Kotick isn't, and realised that couldn't possibly be true.
  • sarcasmoidosis #25 2 years ago

"A chipped 360 will get you banned from XBL pretty damned quickly"

Not really. If you know what you're doing you can play on Live with a modded console. It's risky, of course, but doable.
  • john_silence #26 2 years ago

Ridiculous news, my antipathy towards Activision just grew one notch higher.

I'll be buying and playing the PC version anyway, as I have it preordered for less than 30 euros, but this still sucks. Where other developers add long, annoying delays but include a bit of content to appease the PC crowd, Activision is just pouring salt on the wound for a few days, dancing around and laughing, all the while donning a mask in Bobby Kotick's effigy. That's quite the ordeal, by the way.

At least until now Pc users got the map packs for free, which is really pretty cool!

Edits: man, that "Enter" key can be a bitch sometimes.

It's piracy, most likely. I don't particularly care though as I'm still playing CoD4 online and having a blast; I don't see the need for MW2 at this stage and L4D2 is out near it as well.
  • Spekingur #28 2 years ago

    Oh hell no.

Also, this game is going to sell ALOT on the PC - especially through Steam (that includes me and all of my friends). The only piracy issues they are going to have to deal with is not releasing it in time or if a pirated version of this leaks before release. Even so, if it is good enough some of the so-called pirates are possible buyers in the end. It happened with CoD4:MW, it can happen with CoD:MW2. Heck, if it leaks people will get it pirated and THEN buy it at release (for multiplayer). So if they are worried about piracy then they are just doing it wrong.
  • UncleLou #29 2 years ago

No biggie. It's just two weeks, and if it helps against piracy, or has that placebo effect for Activision, all the better.
  • UncleLou #30 2 years ago

i think we are now hearing the death knoll for the pc upgrading enthusiasts

All I am hearing is the repetitive sound of your "PC gaming is dead" agenda. Must suck to be a nerd. :)
  • riplikethat #31 2 years ago

It's just two weeks. Like others said, obviously they want to sell the expensive version first. 2, 3 or even 6 months isn't enough to make me buy a console version so it doesn't really matter as far as I am concerned. :p
  • Spekingur #32 2 years ago

I agree with that it must be a ploy by Activision to try and ship/sell as many console versions of the game as they can before the PC version put up.
  • makeamazing #33 2 years ago

Now i wonder if this is two weeks for PC CD or Steam as well? Because you cant really use the piracy excuse for Steam. To be honest I dont want to talk about pirates because they do my head in... bunch of loser... anyway. Getting this on console (buying less and less on PC these days unfortunately).
  • Pablo2k5 #34 2 years ago

    Greedy Activision scum bags.
