Midway reveals MK vs. DC character list

Midway has revealed the 22 playable characters who will appear in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe later this year.

The most interesting of these we already know: Wonder Woman. But there are others new to us, such as Shao Khan, who shot to fame with hit song "Ain't Nobody" in the '80s. [Very droll. - Ed]

Originally, the names leaked from a list of Xbox 360 Achievements for MK vs. DC, which are awarded for pulling off expert combo moves as each of the fighters.

Goro, our favourite four-armed monster boss person, doesn't seem to feature. Still, there's hope he may pop up towards the end of the campaign and subsequently be unlockable somewhere down the line.

The list of Achievements can be found on Xbox360Achievements (spotted by Kotaku), funnily enough.

    i'm interested in just how awful this is going to be, just by having the mortal kombat name in the title it is gauranteed to be a turd, but what we have seen so far it looks all set to be one of the worst fighting games ever made. bravo mortal kombat, consistently the worst of the worst.

    (anyone remember the trash-talking representative at e3? heh heh "gonna wipe out SF4" or something)

    i cant believe the company has not gone under with their 1 in 10 good games ratio.

    Ron dicko? Surely a character who was spoiling for fight like Tinhead. Of course, cross over fighters would be much better, Eastenders Vs. Coronation Street Vs. Brookie brawl. Emmerdale can rot with it a cross over with Mortal Kombat.

    I'm surprised there wasn't at least one Watchmen character in there, considering the movie's getting released pretty soon.

    I can't believe this game gets any sort of press. It's look like the worse use of a license since the Goldeneye Rogue Agent.

    I'm not holding out much hope for this game, but since it has Deathstroke the Terminator in it, I will be buying. Slade Wilson is just a badass of the highest order. And according to Brad Meltzer, he could take out the whole JLA (minus the big three).

    Thank god, although there will probably be an equally crap Watchman game already in dev :(

    Though a Rorschach point and click, blade runner style, might be good.

    There's about 100 better characters in the DCU to use instead of Lex Luthor & Shazam. What a waste.

    @vurt: Yeah, but come on, Rorscharch would be a way better fit for this game than most of the characters they've put in. His only ability is beating the crap out of people, brutally so, he'd fit right into the MK universe.

    Moreso than Wonder Woman, anyway.

    I like Mortal Kombat - always have and this game looks good. Wonder Woman the Joker look A-ma-zing. The DC Characters are better looking than the DC Characters.

    http://www.worldscolide. com has some of them on though they are yet to put Kano, Darkseid (or is it Deathstroke), Baraka and Lex Luther on there.

    Shazam looks rubbish though - like Superman but in a different outfit. Green Lantern looks good as does Shang Tsung. I'm dissapointed Kano is on there too - never liked him but I'm glad the annoying Johnny Cage has been left out - smug git.

    I think I'll get this for the right price.

    I don't quite understand the animosity here - no recent MK games have been *that* bad, they're just consistently average.

    Anyway the character roster looks alright apart from a few weird choices. The way I see it, the only possible reason to include Shazam (they probably aren't allowed to call him "Captain Marvel" for copyright reasons), is to have him and Superman as the sort of Sub-Zero & Scorpion of the DC side - essentially a reskin with a slightly different moveset. Still I think someone like Green Arrow or Plastic Man would be a better fit for the MK atmosphere. Or Dr. Light! He'd be a good counterpart to Shang Tsung.

    I'm *guessing* Lex Luthor will be in his ridiculous green & purple kryptonite-infused exoskeleton-robot-suit-thing. Exactly how they're going to explain the idea that someone like Sonya, whose only power is the power of blondeness, or any of the MK characters for that matter would stand anything resembling a chance against Superman or the Flash, is completely beyond me.

    And yeah, Rorschach, Ozymandias, the Comedian, and Dr. Manhattan would be awesome :D

    I want to hurt the guy responsible for this. This game should never have left the drawing board. That and which ever tit suggested it should have been dragged out in to the street and bludgeoned to death with a PS3. However, unfortunately we now have to witness this train wreck of a game.

    Mortal Kombat, with the exception of MK2 (which flirted with greatness) has been a piss poor series, not worthy of a comparison with any Street Fighter game. And speaking as a DC comics fan, I really would rather not see some of my favourite characters associated with this appalling cross-over.

    Can someone please just can this game? Surely no-one wants to see this!

    Woah. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

    This game looks a lot of fun. All credit to Midway and Ed Boons team, they do change the gameplay up a lot between versions and make unique games. They have a lot to prove as Armageddon was a bit of a balls up but Deception was really fun and deserved the 8/10 EG gave it at the time. There is a good chance they will do well on this game as they are changing up the engine again and the DC license will have some freshness with it.

    Of course, you could just be a raging Street Fighter fan wanting that "MK Trash" out of here so be all means, go ahead and rant. I know what fighting game I am picking up this year.
